BMW X1 now in UAE and GCC showrooms

The sub-compact 2011 BMW X1 crossover is now available in the UAE and across the GCC. Based on the 1-Series platform, the X1 will be sold in xDrive all-wheel-drive and sDrive rear-wheel-drive forms in the Middle East.

The X1 xDrive28i has a 258 hp 6-cylinder engine, with 0-100 kph in 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 230 kph. The BMW X1 xDrive25i has a 218 hp 6-cylinder, with 0-100 kph in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 223 kph. The base model is the X1 sDrive18i, with a 150 hp 4-cylinder engine, offering 0-100 kph in 10.4 seconds and a top speed of 200 kph.

While the photos may imply some offroad capability, the X1 is largely a road-going proposition, just like its bigger “SAV” brethren.

  1. And so it begins… rivals to the Infinity EX are now driving in. Upnext for launch the Audi Q3, followed by Landrover’s LRX and finally the Mercedes BLK (maybe not in the same order) which should more or less complete the ‘luxury’ sub-compact segment.

The X1 looks better than its elder brother the X3.

  2. Stationwagon by any other name…

  3. X3 is the elder sister..
    its got feminine looks 😛

  4. Similar to other BMW design lines started 4-5 years ago.
No WOW factor for a new BMW model.
I personally never liked these sub compact cars especially the EX. I simply don’t see the point in these cars.
What next a Mini sub compact!!

  5. IMHO they are diluting the marquee, what is next in line a M1???!!!!!!

  6. Is it a modified 1-series… ugly overpriced vehicle…
