Subaru XV 2012 crossover unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show

Subaru, the not-so-popular Japanese brand in the UAE, has launched the new XV compact crossover at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Based on the Impreza, the XV combines a lot of new features and tech ensuring excellent functionality and great driving dynamics.

The XV is a typical Subaru which shall be powered by upgraded 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre gasoline “boxer” engines; the former being good for 114 hp and 150 Nm of torque, while the latter churning 150 hp and 196 Nm of torque. There is also a heavily-revised four-cylinder diesel boxer specifically designed for the European market, rated for 147 hp and 350 Nm of torque. All powertrains feature a newly developed “Auto Start System’’ with an integrated “change of mind control” allowing a restart within only 0.2 seconds of stopping. The XV will be offered with manual or optional chain-driven CVT transmissions, though there are rumours that the diesel variant shall only be available with a manual stick. Other features of the XV include Subaru’s renowned all-wheel-drive system, an optional 4.3-inch full colour LCD screen with advanced infotainment system, more airbags than bolts, vehicle dynamics control incorporating brake assist function and much more.

Considering the popularity of Subaru in the UAE, thanks to its dealers, we are not expecting to see the XV roaming around in the local streets so soon. Elsewhere in the GCC, Subaru has received mixed success. Nevertheless, if it does come to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and other GCC countries, it’ll likely happen by sometime next year.
