Volkswagen Scirocco R 2012 reaches UAE & GCC showrooms

The Volkswagen Scirocco R, the most potent version of VW’s 3-door “coupé” is now on sale in the GCC.

The 2012 VW Scirocco R is the sister-ship to the VW Golf R, the only major difference being that the Scirocco is front-wheel-drive while the heavier Golf gets an all-wheel-drive system. Standard on the 1344-kilo Scirocco R is an “XDS” transverse differential lock on the front axle to aid handling, as is a 255 hp 2.0-litre “TSI” turbo 4-cylinder with 350 Nm of torque, slightly detuned compared to the European version. A dual-outlet exhaust system is also new to the Scirocco.

The Scirocco R is available with Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) as an option, although the “DSG” automanual gearbox is the only one officially on offer at dealerships here, good for a 0-100 kph run in 5.8 seconds, with a top speed of 250 kph.

Standard equipment includes R-specific 18-inch alloy wheels with size 235/40 tyres. As on the Golf R, an optional 19-inch version of the wheels is also offered. Also similar to the Golf R, the front brakes were modified to 17-inch instead of a 16-inch system. The electronic stability program (ESP) was modified too. A new Sport mode can be selected by pressing the ESP button. The electro-mechanical power steering was also given a sportier tuning curve.

The front end of the Scirocco R is characterised by three large air intakes in the bumper customised for the Scirocco R. Integrated are LED daytime running lights. Compared to all other Scirocco versions, the rear of this car is dominated by a considerably-larger roof edge spoiler and a prominent glossy black diffuser in the lower section of the bumper. In addition, the rear lights of the new Scirocco R were given a smoked tint. New side sills painted in body colour and the outside mirrors are painted a glossy black, independent of the body colour.

The Scirocco R’s interior has special interior accents, sport seats (optionally in leather), dual-zone automatic climate control and the “RCD 310” radio system with CD/MP3 playback function and AUX-IN port.

  1. After taking the Audi TT for an autocross run & since the TT is somehow close enough to the Sirocco.. I have to say the engine drive-train is amazing, with a very smooth power delivery.. It was my favorite part of the car..

Though the electro-hydraulic steering is light and dull & the electric pedal fells like a giant switch. These really dumb down the overall experience..

Maybe I prefer less refined cars but that’s just me..

  2. This car will wipe off the Golf R!!
