Mercedes-Benz CLA spied in Dubai

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA will be the German carmaker’s attempt at a compact “four-door coupe”, and is currently undergoing testing around the world, with one prototype making an appearance right here in the UAE.

While it takes design cues from the CLS, the CLA will apparently be based on the midget-sized A-Class.

According to speculation, under the bonnet will be a 211 hp 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection 4-cylinder with with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel-drive at launch. A range of motors will be offered when the CLA goes on sale, including 1.6-litre and 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines.

Mercedes-Benz showcased the CSC Concept at the Beijin Motor Show in April, which was a preview for what the CLA might look like.

The Mercedes CLA is expected to arrive in 2014 priced from, we’re guessing, Dhs 150,000. Judging by the stage at which this prototype in Dubai seems to be in, the final design details are yet to be nailed down.

  1. Lol striking similarities to the Sonata in the second picture

  2. 150,000 aed …sounds like a bargain for a mini CLS

  3. VW CC competition though I’m guessing it’ll be smaller…

  4. that could be a killer concept that – if successful – all the other big boys are going to copy.

interested to see this one in real life

  5. Have Mercedes confirmed this will be sold in the UAE yet? Last time I spoke to someone at Gargash they were unsure due to supposed clash with the C Class target market. I certainly hope they bring it though, and the CLA45 in particular.

That’s what we’re hearing too. However, the next-gen C-Class is going to be bigger, so I suspect they’ll launch the smaller CLA alongside that instead, maybe in a couple of years.

  6. CLA is available from the end of 2014 according to EMC today. 🙁
