Suzuki Swift DZire 2013 sedan now in Oman and Saudi Arabia

Suzuki dealears in Oman and Saudi Arabia quietly announced the launch of the 2013 Suzuki Swift DZire sedan, or D’Zire, as they like to call it.

Essentially an unattractive sedan version of the attractive Swift hatchback, the dealer is already being honest and pitching it more as a fleet car for rental agencies and companies. The Indian-built car comes standard with a “K12” engine, a 94 hp 1.2-litre 4-cylinder with 113 Nm of torque and a choice of a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic.

What is clear though is the specs sheet. The Suzuki DZire comes in GL, GLX & GLX SPL variants, all with power steering, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and a CD/MP3 player as standard, while options include full power features, keyless entry system, alloy wheels, fog lamps, USB port and automatic climate control.

In an interesting factoid, the Suzuki Swift Dzire sedan has been on sale only in India for years now, but for 2012, they actually shortened the boot section to make the overall length of the car shorter, bringing it under 4 metres in order to qualify for lower taxes. Imagine that, a downsizing at a time when most cars are growing, and that too without changing the rest of the car.

The DZire is apparently already on sale in Oman and Saudi Arabia, although supplies could tighten up since labour unrest at the Maruti-Suzuki factory led to a complete shutdown and has entered its second week. Some say it could last a month, set off by a riot at the factory last week that killed one manager, injured scores more and landed more than 90 people in jail.

Keep track of updates in the Suzuki buyer guide.
