Porsche Macan caught testing in Dubai

The Porsche Macan was announced only a few months ago, in the latest idea by the former sportscar-maker to move downmarket in order to better compete with crossovers like the Audi Q5. Ironically, it was also recently announced that Volkswagen now completely owns Porsche, so essentially the competition for female (and female-like) buyers will be in-house. Here are some photos of the upcoming Macan, caught hot-weather testing in Dubai.

These photos come courtesy of Twitter user @MrTomPaye, who snapped these prototypes in Hatta. In all likelihood, the Macan is based on the Audi Q5 itself, but as a 4-seater. Speculation by British media suggests various VW-derived engines, such as a 237 hp 2.0-litre turbo-4, a 288 hp 3.0-litre turbo-V6, and a 345 hp 3.0-litre turbo V6.

The Macan, named after an Indonesian tiger or an Indian house, is set to go on sale in early 2013.

Keep track of updates in the Porsche buyer guide.
