Le Mans-inspired Radical RXC road-going racer unveiled

Radical Sportscars has unveiled the inspired-by-LMP closed-roof RXC Supercar at the 2013 Autosport International Show.

The RXC gets a Ford Duratec 3.7-litre, 24-valve V6 engine featuring twin-independent variable cam timing and sequential multi-port electronic injection. Maximum output is rated at 380 hp at 6750 rpm and 434 Nm torque at 4250 rpm. It uses a fly-by-wire throttle and ensures immediate power and response while the car will also meet full Euro-5 emissions compliance. The 0-100 kph dash can be clocked in 2.8 seconds and top speed is a claimed 282 kph.

Power goes to the rear wheels through a RPE/Quaife 7-speed transverse gearbox featuring paddleshifts and an automatic torque biasing differential. The system allows 50-millisecond seamless shifting and automatic blips of the throttle for clutch-less downshifts.

The RXC uses a Intrax Racing Suspension inboard push rod suspension system with double wishbones all round.

The wheels are the largest ever found on a Radical built, at 17-inches in diameter and they wear, 235 and 290-section rubber, front and back for the road version and, 215 and 255-section for the race model.

Braking power comes courtesy of fully-floating disc brakes with six-pot callipers with 330mm dia. rotors upfront and 310mm at the rear. The carbon ceramic package is optional.

The dash is equipped with an AiM MXL2 LCD multifunction screen that displays both engine information and performance figures. Optional data logging includes brake pressure and temperature logging to G forces and suspension travel.

Interestingly, the aero-aids are capable of generating up to 900 kg of downforce at maximum speed which equals the car’s mass and the the RXC is the first Radical to feature a roof with occupants accessing the cockpit via a pair of gullwing doors.

The RXC could be eligible to race in both the Radical Winter Cup and the Dubai 24-Hour race for GT sportscars, and depending on local approval, the RXC could possibly also be sold as a road car when it goes on sale in the UAE. It will wear a price tag of Dhs 530,000.
