So we got a 2014 Mazda 6

2014 Mazda 6
There seems to be a tendency among “top” automotive journalists to go with the flow. They will all parrot the same things, like how class-leading the Audi A5 interior is, how easy to drift the Toyota 86 is, or how awesome the Range Rover Evoque drives. If you really knew how the media industry worked, you’d lose faith in the press forever. The latest story that’s going around is how the all-new 2014 Mazda 6 is the best midsize sedan ever made. For once, there is some truth to it, although only up to a point.

The redesigned Mazda 6 looks great, for one. The 6 has always looked good, so Mazda has done well to keep that winning streak going. It’s also the last remaining Japanese midsize sedan to still be built in, you know, Japan. Well, if you don’t count unknowns like the Subaru Legacy and the Suzuki Kizashi.

In contrast, the interior is boring, but there’s a generous amount of soft-touch materials in here. It’s odd because the old model’s interior looked better, but used more hard-plastic cheapness.

Cabin space is good, although slightly less voluminous than class-leaders such as the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. The boot is long, but surprisingly shallow.

But the rave reviews about this Mazda concentrates on the drive. And on that front, it delivers for the most part, with a few glaring flaws that keep it from becoming the best family midsize sedan ever. More on that in the full review.

  1. I have a Mazda 6, the cabin space is good, can put a fold bike there. The fog light is definitely different from our version.

  2. It reminds me to a certain extend of my Mondeo. Brilliant car but flawed in the wrong that doesn’t make it a good family car package…it does however make a good drivers car. ^_^

  3. It looks like this is the last time to drive Mazda:)

  4. So Finally we got Mazda 2014 review. Thanks Mush !!

  5. I was looking to buy a midsize and the 6 is a candidate as is the Malibu and Altima.

After test driving the Mazda6 twice, here is my opinion:
    1) The car is lighter than most midsizes and you feel it when accelerating and braking
    2) Interior is well done, however shockingly for a sedan built in Japan, some creaks exist. E.g when my right knee touched the gear console and pushed it slightly, the gear base moved, which is unthinkable in Accords and Camrys
    3) The “basic” trim is very well equipped for a base with fog lights, power mirrors, touchscreen, keyless start, paddle shifters
    4) Headroom for driver and front passenger is noticeably less than Altima/Camry/Accord
    5) Controls feel good and are very intuitive, as in most Mazdas. The screen is only 5.8″ even in higher trims. No rear AC vents in the basic trim

  6. Thanks Mash, When we will get the full review?

Hope we don’t have to wait so long as I am planning to buy this car and your review will help me on this decision

  7. i would buy this for looks alone…

  8. The looks reminds me of old Mazda xedos

  9. How come that this one has idrive (If I am correct)? But in the showroom the dealer said that here is not coming with this option.

  10. How was the A/C? Is it as strong as the camry/accord/altima? Thnx

  11. Author

However it was in the old model, it’s not good now.

    • I test drove the mazda6 this afternoon (temp was 42 0C) and the a/c was very good! even better than the yaris a/c which i was driving to go there. just saying
