So we got a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

The Jeep Cherokee has always been boxy and upright ever since its debut in the 1980s. It wasn’t considered beautiful, but nobody called it ugly either. The new-for-2014 Cherokee however, is as controversial as it gets, designed to illicit a response, no matter what it may be.

In Trailhawk trim, dare we say it, it looks sort of attractive in a futuristic way, and will probably garner “likes” as time goes on, just like the initially-hated Toyota Land Cruiser and the new Range Rover. Are we being optimistic?

Inside, the trim and tech are class-leading, even if it comes at a price premium.

Space is pretty decent too, with a good-sized boot. There’s even some nifty features, such as the sliding rear seat and the storage compartment under the front passenger seat.

The main advantage that the Trailhawk has over contemporary rivals is that it is tuned for offroading. It can more or less go everywhere a standard Grand Cherokee V6 can go, but without having to try as hard. More on that in the full review.

  1. If someone slaps on a KIA badge at the rear, most of us would think of it as looking at an updated sportage from the rear.

  2. When comparing this…”THING”…to the rest of the JEEP range it doesn’t look like a vehicle that even belongs in their lineup. Whoever approved this exterior design should be fired, it looks horrible, terrible, ridiculous…need I say more?!!

  3. the panoramic roof on this car is such a waste

  4. Take it easy guys, I used to criticize this car in other forums and every time i see its photos, but when I saw it in person hmmmmmm …. its not like the most beautiful car in the world but as the article says, it manages to be decent with futuristic look, besides and again as the article says, the interior is very nice and that includes materials and fit and finish

  5. We picked up our new cherry red Trailhawk last Thursday and we love it. I’ve owned a ’64 International Scout,’69 and ’75 Land Rovers, an ’82 baby Blazer, ’69 Isuzu Trooper, ’96 Jeep Cheroke and an’08 Mitsu Outlander. The new ’14 Trailhawk beats them all, and anyone who doesn’t like it can suck eggs!

  6. I liked this car in person much more than in pictures, and i understand is a competent offroader as well: altough I have an issue with the pricing.

The base trim with its steel rims with weights clamped on the outside, the upholstery worth a Tiida, etc, are pathetic. The nice trims like this one are too close to the grand cherokee which is a class and elegance on its own.

  7. I commented on a piece Drive Arabia did a couple months ago, First Drive Trailhawk. We’ve had our Trailhawk for about four months now. I can only say it surpasses every expectation we had. Here’s what I wrote then, and I can only say it gets better everyday; We had one built for us in January, a Trail Hawk with everything except the navigation package. Red with the brown interior. We’ve had two Jeeps, a Sequoia and two Tahoes the past,so we have some reference for performance. However, this actually takes the place of my wife’s Camry. So we didn’t buy it for off-road as much as comfort and features, she loves it. The interior is very well appointed, sight lines and controls are great. We live in Idaho and have taken it off road, simply put …it really is unbelievable, it’s a monster in a neat little package. I guess I don’t notice the shifting too much, seems smooth, but the handling, steering and feel of control is different, in a good way, from anything I’ve owned. I agree about the looks …at least at first, but the more we look around there is nothing like it. The more I wash it (car washes are off limits, at least for a little while) I find some truly spectacular features in the styling. We saw the Consumer Report after we ordered it, I think they reviewed the 4 cylinder Sport or Limited, they are sluggish and underpowered which might make the transmission work differently. I suggest a test drive in a Trail Hawk V6, if for no other reason just to sit in it, no other interior wraps and surrounds you like this car. But you have to get off road to see the real genius of this vehicle. Well done Jeep.

  8. The front may not appeal to some but the rest of the vehicle, inside and out, is quite alright. As long as it does what it says on the tin Jeep should see good sales.

  9. Pfft… No matter how hard they try, Jeep has no way of justifying that external design. #YUCK #EPICFAIL #SAVEJEEP #TRAILRATEDUGLINESS #TOONONWHEELS

  10. Just Shaking my head. Before you mock it try it. The TrailHawk is a sweet ride. 25 mph. Sleek. And when needed it can do all that is said. And it is luxury inside. And the looks and comments from fellow JEEP owners. This 2014 TrailHawk will is one of a kind. Jeep Chrysler is the oldest Manufacture of 4 wheel drive vehicles starting in 1941. The Italian based Fiat Corporation was behind this With Chrysler for the War effort. For a switch around Jeep has been made in the USA Canada etc. This is the last year for most Jeeps to be made in the USA. They are going home. Jeeps will be made in Italy and sent over the pond. And changes will be made to take it back to the jeep look. Ha This 2014 model is USA and Italy. Ya better get a hawk. There will not be another. So John of June 15,2014 at 2:21 am here is your reply. I am part of the elite TrailHawk owners. Your Loss.

  11. ok open your mind guys, don’t just parrot what some old schools say. gotta move forward in life, time to rewire your neuropathways. If ever a jeep could be a beauty, this would be it. effing awesome front grille. there I said it. #diehardjeepfan
