2016 Jaguar F-Type V6 to get a 6-speed manual

Jaguar F-Type Coupe
The Jaguar F-Type seems to just keep getting better. First they give us the F-Type Convertible with that insane exhaust note, then they increased the oomph factor with the coupe, and now they give us a manual gearbox. Other updates for 2016 include all-wheel drive options for the V6, power upgrade for the V8 convertible and more standard equipment.

While many sports car manufacturers are running after super-fast acceleration times and automatic gear shifts faster than the speed of light, Jaguar has not forgotten about the people who just want to enjoy the driving experience. The 2016 Jaguar F-Type V6 hopefully will fulfill that experience as it will get a 6-speed manual gearbox option. It will be offered only on the rear-wheel drive versions. This includes the standard 340 hp and the 380 hp F-Type S model. Jaguar says “the car features a short-throw gear lever with a travel of only 45 mm, closely-spaced ratios, and pedals well placed for heel-and-toe changes.”

The 2016 V8 F-Type R Convertible will now get 550 hp and optional all-wheel-drive in addition to the current 495 hp rear-wheel drive version. It comes with the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission which helps it reach 0-100 kph in 4.1 seconds, the same as the R Coupe.

All-wheel-drive is now standard on all V8 models in some markets such as the United States, whereas its an option elsewhere, even for the F-Type S coupe and convertible models.

Jaguar maintains the new all-wheel-drive models will maintain its rear-wheel drive characteristics as the system sends 100 % of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels under normal driving conditions. If the system determines that the rear wheels are approaching the limit of available grip, the electronically-controlled center coupling transfers up to 50 % of the engine’s torque to the front axle.

The hydraulic power steering setup is going to be replaced with the electric power assisted steering in all 2016 F-Type models to help reduce fuel consumption and C02 emissions. Jaguar claims the car will still have excellent steering feel, thanks to advancements in electric power steering technology.

Enhancements to the interior include a new gauge and instrument cluster, and upgraded infotainment system. Standard options have increased as well, which includes the Meridian surround sound audio system, Jaguar Smart Key Keyless entry, and 14-way fully power-adjustable seats. Coupe models also receive the panoramic glass roof as standard. R Coupe models receive a power tailgate as standard. On S models standard equipment now includes Configurable Dynamic Mode1, a flat-bottomed racing-style steering wheel and, most importantly, the driver-selectable Switchable Active Exhaust.

The 2016 Jaguar F-Type should arrive in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries in the second half of next year.

Keep track of the latest prices and updates in the Jaguar buyer guide.
