Let the skin not deceive you. This is no fire-breathing American sports car with a burly V8 powering the rear. Under the Chevrolet Corvette’s skin lies an electric supercar from a company called Genovation Cars based in Maryland USA. Called the Genovation GXE, this Corvette-based electric missile comes with more shock than the ballistic Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

The Genovation GXE uses the Chevrolet Corvette C7 as its base. Initially, it was believed to come with more than 660 hp and 813 Nm,but closer to its launch, the actual output figures where revealed. The twin-motor powerplant now produces a whopping 800+ hp and 949 Nm. It beats the Corvette ZR1 by miles as the 6.2-litre Supercharged V8 of the ZR1 produces ‘just’ 755 hp.

The potency of the GXE’s powerplant also ensures the presence of some pretty big numbers on the spec sheet. The 0-100 kph acceleration is taken care of in just a bit more than 3 seconds and the top speed is more than 354 kph. The GXE owes Genovation Cars’ Le Mans and F1-derived technology a penny for this performance. The 60-kWh battery pack also provides a range of roughly 203 km. The placement of the battery packs balances the GXE with a nearly perfect 50:50 weight distribution.

The Genovation GXE, though based on a US$ 75,000 Corvette, is bloody expensive. Due to its technology and performance and as it is limited to just 75 cars, the GXE’s price tag is US$ 750,000.
