We drove the Ferrari 812 Superfast at Dubai Autodrome (video)

The new Ferrari 812 Superfast is the fastest regular-production car to come out of Maranello. It is quick enough to keep up with the LaFerrari up to the 100 kph mark, and outright beat the Enzo. Our resident journosaur Gautam drove the Ferrari 812 Superfast at the global launch, so you can read about the car in detail. But while I and Arabic editor Tammam were not invited to the event in Italy, we did get to drive it at the Dubai Autodrome racetrack recently for a couple of laps. You can check out Tammam’s Arabic video review,

2019 Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 and E 53 debut

2019 Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 and E 53 debut

Just a few years ago, hybrids were regarded as boring. Now though, things have changed. Pure petrolheads may still frown at them, but the fact remains that many hybrids of the present are fast cars. So when Mercedes Benz came up with the mild-hybrid CLS model, their in-house nuts, AMG, decided to play with hybrids to add more speed to them. Thereby we witness the inception of the AMG 53 range.

2019 VW Jetta debuts at 2018 Detroit Auto Show

2019 VW Jetta debuts at 2018 Detroit Auto Show

The Jetta had been a very successful product in the VW portfolio ever since it was first launched in 1979, even if it’s not particularly common on GCC streets. In the U.S. alone, VW managed to sell 3.2 million Jettas in this time period. Now, at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show, the sedan walked into its 7th generation with sleeker styling, a new platform and a completely overhauled interior.

Long-term update: The curious case of the fuel gauge in our Nissan Patrol

Long-term update: The curious case of the fuel gauge in our Nissan Patrol

A few months ago, our Nissan Patrol LE went in for its mandatory bi-annual service. Yet again, we pointed out that the fuel gauge was showing wrong readings half the time. If you’ve read our past long-term updates, you’ll know this is an ongoing problem since we bought the car (although curiously, no other post-facelift Patrol owner seems to have this issue). This time, the service advisor blamed it on a low battery. Okay, we’ll play along and see what happens.

Hyundai Veloster 2019 gets makeover with hotter N version

Hyundai Veloster 2019 gets makeover with hotter N version

Quirkiness was the Hyundai Veloster’s signature dish. The first generation of the Korean hatch was acclaimed for the bold 1-door-on-one-side and 2-on-the-other design. Fast forward 7 years, and a second generation has been unveiled at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show which carries over the same level of eccentricity but in an even more impressive package that includes a very hot Veloster N.

First drive: 2018 Bugatti Chiron in the UAE

First drive: 2018 Bugatti Chiron in the UAE

There are certain things that happen only once in a lifetime. One of them is the chance to drive a Bugatti of any sort. When the Veyron was new in 2005, George W. Bush was still the U.S. president and the iPhone was still a passing thought in Steve Jobs’ mind. Of course, now we have the Chiron. Our resident journosaur Gautam Sharma drove one at the global launch event in Portugal last year. And this winter, I was offered an exclusive drive of the exact same car right here on the roads of the UAE, with 1988 24 Hours of Le Mans champion Andy Wallace as co-driver.

2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class looks old, but very new underneath

In the past, there had been several automotive legends that were too good to just vanish into the history books. One such vehicle is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Released in 1979, the Mercedes BenzG-Class, or G-Wagen, as it’s better known, had survived four decades since its inception. And now at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show, Mercedes revealed an all-new generation of the 2019 G-Class which is just as rugged as the old one.

First drive: 2018 Infiniti QX80 in the UAE

Infiniti chose the 2017 Dubai Motor Show to debut its facelifted 2018 QX80 a couple of months ago. It wasn’t just a fluke. The Middle East is apparently the QX80’s second-largest market after the United States. No time was wasted in bringing the new model to the streets either. We took it for a spin around Ras Al Khaimah, after flying there from Dubai by helicopter, courtesy of Infiniti.

Bentley Bentayga V8 joins 2018 line-up

Bentley Bentayga V8 joins 2018 line-up

When Bentley’s first SUV, the Bentayga, was introduced more than two years ago, it came only with a W12 engine. A V8 diesel was added later to the lineup which opened the floodgates to many controversial debates. Now Bentley has chosen another V8 to power the Bentayga, this time it’s a petrol.
