2021 Toyota Hilux revealed in Thailand
Hardly a week before, we reported leaked images of the new 2021 Toyota Hilux. And now, Toyota has revealed the new Hilux in Thailand and it is pretty much what we saw already.
Design-wise, the 2021 Toyota Hilux builds on the current model, which has made it look more aggressive than before. But don’t get your hopes too high. The model in the press images shown here is the lifestyle variant launched in Thailand, which may not make it to our region. Owing to the popularity of Hilux as a commercial vehicle and as nothing else in our region, expect a toned-down fascia and a dull white paint job. And of course, some decals.
The 2021 Hilux gets an 8-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay. The pickup also gets various safety features such as a pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruise control and lane departure alert in its top trims.
The details on the engines offered in the GCC-spec petrol Hilux are not out yet. Elsewhere, the 2.4-litre turbodiesel will retain its outputs of 147 hp and 342 Nm. In Thailand, the Hilux gets an uprated 2.8-litre diesel with 201 hp and 500 Nm of torque. Sadly, this engine is not offered in our market any more. Will Toyota make the decision to re-introduce this engine with the 2021 Hilux to go up against the well-known Ford Ranger Wildtrak? Only time will tell.
Apart from these updates, Toyota has also fiddled with the suspension of the 2021 Hilux, increasing the shock absorbers’ travel and improving the leaf spring structure.
This spec of the 2021 Toyota Hilux will be built in Thailand, from where it makes its way into the ASEAN and Australian markets. Though the Hilux sold in the GCC is also built in Thailand, the exact package that will be offered to our market will be different, suited for our commercial applications.
