Chinese EV maker NIO made headlines with their new 150 kWh Solid-State Battery pack a few days ago. The tech will go into their first sedan, joining as the flagship vehicle to their lineup. Called the NIO ET7, the large sedan can return a colossal 1000 km range with the new battery pack.

The NIO ET7 is a gorgeous sedan. Borrowing lines from the NIO ET Preview concept that they showed off in 2019, the ET7 shows off a sleek body with a fastback-styled rear. The narrow headlamps and the vertically stacked LEDs on either side of the bumper give it a futuristic appeal.

Inside, the ET7 is kitted to befit the character of the luxury sedan. All seats are fitted with heating, ventilation and massaging functions. There is a large glass roof to enhance the feeling of space inside the large cabin. The dashboard design is minimalistic with the 12.8-inch centre display being the focal point. Yet, the highlight of the whole design must be the “invisible” smart air vents. There is a 10.2-inch instrument cluster as standard, so is a 23-speaker sound system.

The NIO ET7 is also loaded to the gills with tech including eleven cameras, a LiDAR system and NIO’s “Adam” computer. This tech hardware makes the ET7 capable of autonomous driving, the features of which can be subscribed from NIO for a monthly fee.

At launch, the NIO ET7 is offered only with two battery options, — a 70 kWh unit and a 100 kWh unit. ET7 with the latest 150 kWh battery unit will be offered only in late 2022 when the battery pack gets launched. The 70 kWh version gets an NEDC range of about 500 km while the 100 kWh version can run for 700 km in a single charge. When the 150kWh option is made available, NIO claims that it will provide a colossal range of 1000 km. The ET7 is powered by a dual-motor setup that produces 643 hp along with 850 Nm of torque. This can propel the sedan from 0 to 100 kph in 3.9 seconds.

The NIO ET7 can be a formidable contender to Teslas internationally but for now, the ET7 will only be offered in China. In the PRC, it starts from 448,000 Yuan (Dhs 253,900) and tops out at 526,000 Yuan (Dhs 298,200). NIO also offers an option to pay a base price and opt for Battery As a Service (BaaS) against a monthly payment.
