Citroën C5 X debuts as sedan-wagon-crossover flagship

When it comes to funky car designs, Citroën sits tightly on the throne. And now they have broken out all their craziness to produce 2022 Citroën C5 X, giving company to the Peugeot 508 and DS9 as sister-model flagships. This sedan-wagon-crossover mashup takes on the likes of the Mercedes Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6, although it’s not quite premium enough for that crowd.

The design of the Citroën C5 X is bold and quite peculiar. It is a cross between a sedan and a wagon, with some crossover elements sprinkled on top. The front fascia of the C5 X gets sharp cuts and creases, accommodating its sleek headlamps, DRLs and the new Citroën logo.  The roof travels to the rear in a sedan-like fashion but carries on beyond the C-pillar, like that of a wagon. This special bodywork rides higher off the ground, like a crossover. There are some plastic elements on the C5 X’s body that give it a “rugged” appeal.

Inside their new flagship, Citroën crams in a lot of tech, including a 12-inch touchscreen for its infotainment functions and a digital instrument cluster. There is a heads-up display as well, supporting augmented reality. The climate controls are still physical buttons, which should be easier to use while on the drive than a touch panel.

To make sure that the flagship C5 X does not miss out on Citroën’s signature strength, comfort, they have given it the Citroën Advanced Comfort suspension, along with an active suspension system. The seats are also fitted with something Citroën calls Progressive Hydraulic Cushions, which should theoretically offer great ride quality.

The Citroën C5 X sources its power from a plug-in-hybrid system that churns out 225 hp. This powertrain also allows the C5 X to travel more than 50 km while sipping exclusively on the electric juice. Other petrol engines are also planned but the hybrid is the only on in the limelight as of now.

Believe it or not, mysterious Citroen is back on sale in the UAE, although it is unclear if this model will be offered in the Middle East.
