MG Cyber X

MG Cyber X EV SUV debuts at Shanghai Motor Show

MG has unveiled its newest all-electric SUV, the MG Cyber X, at the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show in China. This futuristic-looking SUV is the second entry in MG’s Cyber series, following the launch of the Cyberster roadster late last year.

The MG Cyber X takes a bold step away from MG’s conventional design language. It sports a boxy profile, finished in a stealthy matte black exterior, giving it a distinctly concept-car vibe. The most attention-grabbing feature is the pop-up headlights, a nostalgic design element that retracts seamlessly into the body when not in use — a rarity in modern production vehicles.

From the side, the smoked black A- and B-pillars give the SUV a floating roof appearance, which is further enhanced by two-tone, five-spoke wheels in silver and black. While MG hasn’t revealed full interior images yet, the company has confirmed that the cockpit and connectivity systems were co-developed with smartphone manufacturer Oppo, hinting at a heavy tech influence inside the cabin.

Technical specifications remain under wraps for now — there’s no word yet on battery size, range, or performance figures. Pricing and launch markets are yet to be announced.

The MG Cyber X is part of the brand’s accelerated electric vehicle rollout plan. MG, owned by Chinese automotive giant SAIC Motor, plans to launch eight new EV models over the next two years, including sedans, SUVs, and sports cars.

In addition to the Cyber X, MG has confirmed that two more models will arrive in 2025: a larger five-seater SUV and a compact electric sedan, both designed to expand the Cyber lineup into new segments.

This announcement follows MG’s global EV push, which began with the MG4 hatchback, unveiled earlier in March. The MG4 is expected to launch in China in the second quarter and will arrive in European markets later this year.

MG is already seeing momentum in its domestic market, with sales in China reaching 10,000 units in March 2025, marking an 82.6% year-on-year increase.
