NIO Showcases Three EV Brands at Shanghai Motor Show
NIO made a major splash at the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show, showcasing 11 models and 12 Full Stack technologies under its three brands — NIO, ONVO, and firefly — as the company embarks on what it calls a “year of technological harvest.”
Three brands
NIO’s Founder and CEO William Li highlighted that this was the first time the three brands have appeared together at a major auto show. He confirmed that nine new models are planned across the brands in 2025, with a major new launch scheduled every quarter.
Leading the display was the NIO ET9, the brand’s new smart electric flagship sedan. Visitors to the stand were able to experience the SkyRide Full Active Suspension, steer-by-wire system, and the “SkyRide Dance” live performance by the ET9.
New launches across all brands
NIO confirmed that updated versions of the ET5, ET5T, ES6, and EC6 will launch in the second quarter of 2025. A third-generation ES8 will follow later this year.
Meanwhile, NIO’s mid-range brand ONVO debuted the ONVO L90, a large flagship SUV with deliveries slated for the third quarter. ONVO also confirmed its next model, the L80, will be revealed in the fourth quarter.
Firefly, NIO’s new brand targeting the compact premium market, launched its first model on April 19, with deliveries beginning on April 29. Firefly models are set to expand internationally, entering 16 countries initially, as part of NIO’s broader target to reach 25 markets.
Technology
NIO’s stand also featured a dedicated core technology area, highlighting major achievements like the Shenji NX9031 smart driving chip, the SkyRide active suspension, and the new 900V electric drive system. Live demos included the latest fourth-generation battery swap station and the new 750kW NIO Power Charger 4.0.
Two samples of the in-house Shenji chip were displayed at the press conference. The chip powers not only the ET9 but will also feature in the upcoming refreshed ET5, ET5T, ES6, and EC6 models, enabling continued upgrades to their intelligent driving systems.
More than just cars
NIO also recreated a NIO House at its stand, complete with the signature NIO Café, NIO Radio, and a second-floor user lounge, staffed by over 260 volunteers.
The company’s lifestyle brand NIO Life debuted new products under its BLUE SKY LAB Upcycling Project, turning leftover manufacturing materials into sustainable goods. Alongside NIO Life, the firefly life and ONVO Life brands also made their first joint appearance, promoting sustainable living, family happiness, and personal freedom.
Additionally, NIO’s seeds knowledge platform hosted a series of “Dialogue with the Future” roundtable discussions with ET9 users and tech experts.
NIO’s massive presence at Auto Shanghai 2025 reflects its ambitions not just in vehicles, but in technology, sustainability, and lifestyle, as it aggressively targets new markets and wider global recognition.
