So we got a 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography

We’ve driven the 2006 Range Rover. We’ve driven the 2010 Range Rover. Heck, we own a 2005 Range Rover. We’ve also driven all the smaller iterations of the Range Rover that have cropped up in the past decade, namely the Sport and the Evoque. But for one reason or another, we’ve never had the chance to drive the current-generation Range Rover. Doesn’t matter though, as the thing is selling like hot cakes, even in the current economy. However, we finally did manage to get our hands on one last week. Only, it was the long-wheelbase SV Autobiography version —

So we got a 2015 Range Rover Sport SVR

There are several fast 4x4s nowadays. And Range Rovers have been plenty fast ever since they started sticking superchargers on their V8s about a decade ago. However, someone gave Land Rover the bright idea that they should start their own “performance” badge, like BMW’s M and Mercedes’ AMG. Frankly, we’re wondering why they didn’t think of it sooner.

First drive: 2015 Land Rover LR4 Black Pack in the UAE

After driving it in icy Iceland, we finally take a look at it on our dry local roads.

First drive: 2015 Range Rover Sport SVR in New York USA

Does an SUV belong on a racetrack? There are several German brands trying to answer that question, but their offerings are so compromised in the pursuit of Nurburgring lap records that they hardly qualify as SUVs. And then there’s the new 2015 Range Rover Sport SVR, which set its own ‘Ring record for SUVs, however briefly it held. The difference between the SVR and other super-SUVs is that it can still go offroad. We drove one of these battering rams at a media event in New York last month.

Diesel cars not allowed in Dubai any more? *Updated*

Diesel-powered cars are quite popular in Europe, Asia and parts of the United States. They’re known for their fuel economy, immense torque and characteristic rattling engine note. Diesel has generally been the domain of commercial vehicles in the GCC. However, over the last few years, a few carmakers have sort of offered diesel cars in the UAE, usually on special order, such as the Audi Q7 W12 TDI, the Porsche Cayenne Diesel and the Land Rover Defender. Now we’re hearing that diesel cars, privately-owned ones at least, are not allowed to be newly registered in Dubai any more.
