This GTS here is the V8 version of the Maserati Quattroporte. And they’ve tacked on a turbocharger as well. When we drove the Quattroporte S before, with a turbo V6, we felt it was all the car you’d ever need, even in terms of power. And we were right. Because this here GTS, it is absolutely mental!
Italian carmaker Maserati is eager to take a bigger share of the luxury car market, especially with the addition of several new models in just the last two years. Recently Maserati held a media drive event in Dubai to highlight their latest addition, the midsize Ghibli sedan. But they also brought along some of their other models as well, so we got our first look at the Maserati GranCabrio MC and the Quattroporte GTS as well.
If you’re the aging CEO of a well-to-do company and you like to be driven around, your ride of choice has probably gravitated towards default choices like the Mercedes-Benz S350L or the BMW 740Li. If you felt adventurous, you might even look at the Audi A8 3.0T, the Lexus LS 460 or, in a particularly down year, the Hyundai Centennial. But what if you’ve made your money a bit earlier in life, and you prefer to mostly do your own driving? You also like to not appear like an aging CEO around town, so you want a bit more style in your car than the traditionally-conservative choices.
This is our very first encounter with the Maserati brand. The closest we’d come before that was a tour of their shared pre-owned showroom. Then there was the time we had the sudden urge to pick up a used Quattroporte, but it wasn’t a compelling-enough car to make us follow through on that urge. And now here we are, trying out the redesigned Quattroporte, and wondering how compelling the new model is.
Celebrating 50 years of the Quattroporte, Maserati has gone ahead and revealed the new 2013 model before the confirmed Detroit auto show debut. Even though details are still sketchy on the powertrain this gorgeous vehicle will carry, Maserati claims the engines will be more powerful and eco-friendly than ever before. Jointly developed and designed with Ferrari, the engines will be produced at the Ferrari Maranello plant in Italy.
German tuners CDC International has revealed their customization programme for the Maserati Quattroporte, which comprise of various visual and performance modifications.
