The 2008 Jeep Liberty, to be unveiled at the 2007 New York Auto Show, features an all-new slab-sided look, but is essentially just a reskinned version of the Dodge Nitro that was unveiled in the Middle East recently.

The new Liberty, or Cherokee as it is known in the GCC, is powered by the same 3.7-litre V6 producing 210 hp and 318 Nm of torque, available with either a 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. It might be slower due to weight, be it should handle better thanks to an all-new independent front suspension and new five-link rear suspension. The Liberty’s Trail Rating is in tact, regardless of whether you choose the hard core Selec-Trac II full-time four-wheel-drive system or Command-Trac part-time four-wheel-drive system.
