With the new SL65 AMG Black Edition taking up the top spot in the Mercedes-Benz line-up temporarily, the SLR McLaren is being discontinued soon, as AMG and McLaren branch off to make brand new supercars of their own. To give the aging SLR one last hurrah, an SLR Speedster is being developed. The funny part is, these “spy shots” were deliberately leaked by Mercedes-Benz themselves.

Different from the SLR Roadster in that this one has no roof or even a windshield, the SLR Speedster is expected to be a lightweight track-racer that ditches all the standard comforts and guns for pure performance. Expect a boost in power, lots of weight-saving features, and a crazy price.

Stories are already circulating that most of these toys are earmarked for the “rain-free” Middle East, where money flows out of the ground, but only for a select few.
