Ferrari reveals Hypersail project and livery at Milan Design Week
Ferrari has unveiled the livery of its new Hypersail project during Milan Design Week, marking the brand’s entry into high-performance offshore sailing with a 100-foot foiling monohull vessel.
The project represents a shift beyond automotive design, combining Ferrari’s engineering expertise with advanced nautical technology. Developed as an open innovation platform, Hypersail brings together the Ferrari Design Studio led by Flavio Manzoni, the Ferrari Tech Team, and renowned naval architect Guillaume Verdier.
Performance-led design approach
Ferrari says the Hypersail project follows a strict performance-first philosophy, where every design element is shaped by aerodynamic and hydrodynamic requirements.
The vessel’s form is influenced by the interaction between wind, water, and speed, with aesthetics emerging as a result of engineering constraints rather than purely stylistic decisions.
The streamlined silhouette draws inspiration from Ferrari models such as the Monza SP1/SP2, while design elements on the deck and structure reference the Le Mans-winning 499P Hypercar.
Advanced technology and sustainable power
At the core of Hypersail is a foiling system supported by a sophisticated control setup, allowing the monohull to “fly” above the water for improved efficiency and speed.
The vessel is powered through a combination of renewable energy sources, including wind, solar, and kinetic energy recovery. Solar panels are integrated into the deck and hull sides, designed to be walkable while maintaining grip and durability for crew movement.
Ferrari says the decision to use a monohull configuration was based on achieving maximum aerodynamic and hydrodynamic efficiency.
New livery inspired by Ferrari heritage
The Hypersail introduces a new livery combining exposed carbon fibre, finished in a shade called Grigio Hypersail, with Nuovo Giallo Fly — a yellow colour historically linked to Ferrari’s identity.
The use of yellow highlights key structural elements such as the hull lines and foils, while also referencing classic Ferrari models like the 512 BB. The design also incorporates modern Ferrari styling cues seen in recent Formula 1 cars and limited-production models.
Milan Design Week showcase
As part of Milan Design Week, Ferrari is displaying the Hypersail project through a dedicated exhibition at its flagship store in Milan from April 22 to 26.
The showcase also includes a large-scale “lighthouse” installation on the HIGHLINE Milano terrace overlooking Piazza del Duomo, positioning Hypersail as a symbol of future innovation in both design and performance.
Ferrari expanding beyond automotive boundaries
With Hypersail, Ferrari is extending its design and engineering philosophy into new areas, applying its experience from motorsport and road cars to offshore sailing.
The project highlights how the brand is exploring new platforms where performance, sustainability, and design intersect, while maintaining a strong link to its core DNA.
