Mazda CX-7 gets facelift and new engine

2010 Mazda CX-7
The GCC market gets the 7-seater Mazda CX-9, but the rest of the world also gets a shorter and sportier 5-seater CX-7 model. And that CX-7 has already reached the point where it needed a facelift to stay fresh, so the 2010 model gets a smiley new face to go with a new engine choice.

The new base engine is a 161 hp 2.5-litre 4-cylinder, bummed from the Mazda 6. The top U.S. engine continues to be the existing 244 hp turbocharged 2.3-litre 4-cylinder, although European markets also get a 260 hp version.

The European debut took place at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show. Though rumours of the CX-7 being launched in Dubai has been around since last year, it remains to be seen whether this model will come to the UAE. Insider sources say it has been held up since the turbo engine cannot handle this region’s high-sulphur petrol, but with the new smaller non-turbo engine, the CX-7 will debut in the UAE by this July.

  1. Good looking….

  2. This is the problem for car builders who easily make quick decision to make a sudden facelift on their most recent models particularly the engine size. Being a CX9 owner, I hope Mazda will not do the same.

  3. CX-7 isn’t very new. already 3-4 yrs have passed since its birth.
    .
thumbs up for the facelift… 😎

  4. Look at the ageing pajero, prado and pathfinder. Still they are maintaining a decent market share because they are keeping their models, i.e., engine size.

  5. Sudden facelift is doing more harm than good, especially when the model is doing well in terms of sales and performance. Previous CX7 is a good SUV with a good rating. Common, if you are buyer, why will you buy a car that easily makes sudden facelift, particularly the engine? 🙄

  6. The problem here is that, both the CX-7 and CX-9 have been around in the US market for some time now, but was only brough to the GCC 1 1/2 to 2 years back if im not mistaken or even closer. So globally a facelift is due every 4-5 years just to refresh it.
And regarding the engine size, i dont think they’re changing that at all. I think the only difference for this new Cx-7 is that it now also get a base engine instead of having one turbo charged unit. BTW: the the previous CX-7 also used a 2.3 turbo unit from the mazda speed3.

  7. Well, that’s a corporate decision, but for the benefit of the CX owners, Mazda should have kept CX7 instead of phasing out and add this new model as CX6 or CX8. Remember the MPV, now you it, now you don’t. Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi has an array of models. Mazda got only a handful. Why? Money issues, there’s no doubt.

  8. Remember the MPV, now you seet it, now you don’t.

  9. Huh?? who said they’re phasing it out?? this is just a facelift!!Most of the other products dont make it to the GCC, the speed3, speed6, this CX-7 to name a few.

  10. Mazda sales had told me cx7 will be launched in UAE June/July

  11. the reason CX7 never came to this market was its turbo engine…with the new 2.5 base engine it would be hittin the mid east market competing against CRV, RAV4…i am sure if it comes to this market it would be big hit like CX9…only problem is the current recession…by the way Mazda is bringin CX5 sometime in 2010 n its based on Ford Kuga…

  12. I said the facelift should have been called CX6 or CX8 and retained the CX7 with the 2.7 L engine.

  13. 2.5L engine from the mazda 6..but only 161 hp??? why did they detune it?? the ones coming here is 168 hp (or 170 hp) i guess!!

  14. All of you are not intelligent.

‘Now you it, now you don’t.’

What the hell is that? Anyway I don’t care whatyou all say and especially you, now you it, Mazda and its CX-7 and facelift owns all.

  15. he meant: now you see it, now you don’t.

  16. So you are intelligent Deags. Ok, no problem.

But bear in mind that this is a comment column, and we are entitled to our own opinion/commnent especially when someone wants to voice out the feeling of the buyers in terms of benefit of maintenance and spare parts availability and not just merely focusing on the one sided manufacturer’s prerogative to facelift in order to increase their sales.

Hooray for the only intelligent guy in this column.

BTW, pls arrange properly the composition of your comment. I could hardly understand it Mr. Intelligent.

  17. very nicee car amazing , thumbs upppppppp

  18. when will CX-7 come to Dubai? Anyone know??

  19. CX 7 is hitting the Dubai market by 1st week on Nov 09. I am going own it.

  20. CX-7 is going to be introduced this Wednesday. I am definitely going for their presentation.
Want to check out interior and option package for price they are asking.
2.3 turbo AWD Full options is going to be around 113K, so it should compete with Tiguan I guess.

  21. Oh, BTW, hope Mashfique will be there. It would be interesting to check his comments about this car.

  22. Author

Is it? I haven’t been invited yet.

  23. I have got ad through Mazda’s newsletter last Thursday. Call them on 800-MAZDA to confirm. It is going to be in their show room in Deira @ 19:30.
Very excited as this car seems to fit what I want from an affordable CUV, speed and good sporty handling 🙂
