Mercedes-Benz CLS 2012 makes early debut

The original Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class gave birth to the “four-door coupe” marketing gimmick for slinky sedans back in 2003. And it still looks as fresh as the day it debuted, likely due to its inherent rarity. Now, after months of spy shots all around the world, the all-new 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS has finally been revealed, before its debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show in October this year.

The new CLS retains the swoopy roofline, sloping rear-end, frameless doors and seating-for-four of the outgoing model, but somehow, we have doubts that this design will appeal as universally, judging by that upright snout. Exterior add-ons include full LED headlights, LED indicators and LED everything-else.

The interior is typical Mercedes-Benz, with features such as galvanised-metal a/c vents and lacquered finishes. Seat and dashboard leathers are apparently sewn together by hand. Customers can choose between high-gloss brown burl walnut or high-gloss black ash, as well as piano-black lacquer or carbon-fibre trim elements.

Engine and technical details are lacking, although a quick look at the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class specs should satisfy any curiosity, because they are both essentially the same car underneath. The CLS itself should arrive in UAE, Saudi and GCC showrooms by early 2011.

Keep track of GCC updates in the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class buyer guide.

  1. Seen them testing it here with stickers covering the logos recently.

  2. I don’t think the lights are as elegant as the ones on the current CLS, but the rest is pretty good.
