BMW 6-Series 2012 coupe finally revealed

For some reason, BMW released the new 2012 BMW 6-Series Convertible first, complete with a media launch event in South Africa to which we were not invited, and is already on sale in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries. Now BMW has revealed details about the Coupe version.

Under the bonnet sits the same 400 hp turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 as the 650i convertible, with 610 Nm of torque from 1750 rpm up to 4500 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle-shifters, with a traditional 6-speed manual gearbox also available. Both manual and automatic versions are capable of 0-100 kph in 4.9 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 248 kph.

As with the convertible, the 2012 6-Series coupe comes with a 10.2-inch high-definition screen, lane departure warning, blind spot monitor, rear and top-view cameras, a parking assistant and a 3D heads-up display.

The 6-Series convertible is already on sale in the Middle East, and we’d expect the coupe to hit the GCC by summer.

Keep track of upcoming updates in the BMW 6-Series buyer guide.

  1. cabrio is not so interesting. The coupe is just a dream becoming even better. Fantastic car. Me wants !! 😉

    • Wrong!! You definietly did not experience a ride in a topless car.. I miss driving convertibles..

    • Wouldn’t the interior get dusty and dirty with the top down?????? I am Mr. Clean in terms of that.

    • You can always buy a duster brush??

    • @ROJ : Since when has a personal preference been wrong or right dude? I i like coke over pepsi, am i wrong in that? So ur into convertibles, gud for you. When i think of a powerful sports car, I dont like the chassis ruined by the roof being chopped or the added weight to make it stronger. Whats the point of buying such a pwerful car if wat u basically want is topless. You cant drive 160km with the top down. Never heard of a convertible fighter jet. Its just my personal preference. Offcourse the cabrio probably is also a brilliant car. We are only enthusiasts admiring cars here and sharing views. Its not a debate nor do i wish to make it one.

    • Yep. But I hate it when the dust goes to narrow places which is out of reach like the edges between the plastics. And the space between the steering column and instrument panel. Later the dust gets thick which I have an allergy of. May be I should stick to hardtop.

    • Im not saying anything and I dont intend to make a debate out of it… but im just saying it quite a joy to own a convertible.. Sometimes at moments you wish you can remove the roof when the weather is nice and when you’re driving on a nice mountainous road at the easter emirates..

The general law of convertibles is as follows (according to top gear when they tested the Z4 and S2000 which are naturally born as convertibles from the 1st place):
Never buy car that is originally with a roof!! Buy a car that was designed as a convertible from the 1st place.. To avoid the issue of having to chop a roof and extra weight to strengthen a chassis from the 1st place..

In all cases I feel this car doesnt suit my taste, Id rather opt for the smaller and more nimble Z4.

    • @ROJ: I do agree with you there. this is kind of a rich brats toy. the Z4 is a much more realistic car. 😉

  2. I’m not waiting for this, I am waiting for the M6!

  3. recently I started to notice that german cars are underpowered compared to others, when you see V6 TC producing over 400 hp or the mustang’s naturally aspirated V8 5.0 producing over 420 hp and takes the car to 100 km in 4.5 sec, then the performance figures of this car turn to be not convincing, please note that I’m talking about performance VS price, dont tell me the bla bla bla of finish and materials, this is a cars’ enthusiast point of view.

  4. no wayy what a sexy car! cars are born to be german plz 🙂 a mustang is cheap and you have to see its reliability.. i guess that m6 will be better than a cheap mustang

    • Yeah, get a top of the line Mustang and race it with a top of the line 6 Series, the M6, and you will see the difference.

Sigh! Comparing a Mustang to the 6 Series.

  5. how many can afford this or m3,5,6 but most of u could afford a mustang its easy to say i prefer this or that but realasticly most of us only can watch and admire or els get a mustang, camaro, etc and give germans a run for there money on streets….

  6. Abdullah, you are saying M6, so why dont you compare it to the shelby then????? I SAID IT VERY CLEAR, DONT SPEAK ABOUT FINISH AND OTHER THINGS, JUST COMPARE THE PRICE VS PERFORMANCE, AND WHO SAID GERMAN CARS ARE RELEIBLE???? MY FRIEND HAS S500 MERCEDES 2007 WITH ONLY 47 K ON THE ODO, THE DOOR VACUMM SYSTEM THAT CLOSES THE DOOR STOPPED WORKING AND NOW HE HAS SRS AIRBAG LIGHT IN THE DASH SAYING THE SENSOR IS NO MORE WORKING, SO SIGH TO YOU

  7. @ eli are u ok u comparing mustang with bMw?

    Mustang will kick bmw anytime

    • I kind of agree with samer. Sure german cars are the best, but they are only really fast when you look at their top end sport models. The other ones even if supremely powerful are bogged down by all the luxuries and weight. Nowhere near suggesting that the cars are comparable. The BMW 6 is 3 leagues above something like the mustang. But if you compare only speed you would probably have to pay thru your nose (if u can afford) and then some more to get those top sport models. which ends up about 4 times the cost of a mustang or company. But in the end speed is not everything, its the overall driving and ownership experience, the though of comparing a mustang with this is actually silly. Go BMW !! (P.S: Cut your prices a bit so more ppl can afford ;P )

  8. Does anyone else see that it is a bit ugly??

  9. any news on the price of the 650i coupe?

  10. with this styling it reminds me of the old school bmw 8 series coupe. It is still not my cup of tea.
