Jeep Wrangler pick-up production version planned

Jeep showcased the Gladiator concept at the North American International Auto Show back in 2005. And although it was received well by the crowds, it didn’t make to the production lines due to Chrysler’s ongoing financial ordeal at that point in time.

Recently however, Jeep President Mike Manley has hinted that the Pick-up concept might go into production pretty soon.

Manley also mentioned that two and four-door variants are under consideration but “One of the issues is that when you go four-door with a bed is that your break-over angle gets destroyed. We can still maintain approach and departure angles, but when we get to a certain length, the break-over becomes an issue.”

This is a challenge considering the truck would likely be based on the next-generation Wrangler and Jeep doesn’t want to damage the off-roader’s prowess by making it less capable. Alternatively, Jeep may consider using the “very, very versatile” Fiat-based platform, according to Manley.

Meanwhile, Chrysler is already offering a pickup conversion kit for the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited through their parts catalogue. In fact, the UAE dealer is already offering the ready-made conversion to anyone willing to pay Dhs 50,000 right now. A converted Wrangler pick-up is on display at the Dubai showroom.
