The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee was previewed at the 2016 New York Auto Show to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Jeep brand. Shown were the new Trailhawk and updated Summit variants, aside from a general range-wide facelift.

The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is the “the most capable version ever produced.” In order to live up to that description, the Trailhawk is fitted with Jeep’s 4X4 system with an electronic limited-slip differential, Jeep’s Quadra-Lift air suspension, more ride height, better suspension travel and articulation, skid plates and a matte hood. Buyers can opt to choose between the standard 18-inch wheels or the optional 20 inchers, both shod with Goodyear Adventure off-road tyres.

Inside, the Trailhawk has an all-black suede and leather interior with red accent stitching. The piano-black parts and the gunmetal finishes complete the interior. An 8.4-inch UConnect Infotainment system is fitted as standard.

The Grand Cherokee Summit is at the other end of the world when compared to the tough Trailhawk, being “the most luxurious version ever made.” It has an updated exterior, LED lights and 20-inch polished wheels.

Inside, the Summit has a full leather interior in four colour schemes. It also has Active Noise Cancellation, Berber carpets and a Harman Kardon sound system. A large list of safety systems are also on offer which includes blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and parallel/ perpendicular park assist.

Both the versions will be available throughout the engine range which gives the buyer an opportunity to choose from a selection of engines, including a “Pentastar” V6 with 295 hp, a “Hemi” V8 with a 360 hp and a turbodiesel with 240 hp.

A range-topping SRT Hellcat model with the supercharged “Hemi” 6.2-litre V8 is also confirmed to be on the cards by Jeep, although that may not show up until 2018.

Expect the new models to debut in the UAE and other GCC countries by the end of the year.

Keep track of prices and updates in the Jeep buyer guide.
