2018 Ford Mustang gets more power & 10-speed transmission

Back in January, Ford gave their fairly new sixth-generation Mustang a facelift for the 2018 model year. And now, more details of the updated Mustang has surfaced. The specs suggest that the 2018 Ford Mustang GT will be the fastest mainstream Ford Mustang ever built.

The 2018 Mustang GT will sport the same 5.0-litre V8 from the previous model but this time it is fitted with direct injection. This hikes the power output of the 2018 Ford Mustang GT to 460 hp. Torque gets an uplift too, which is now measured at 570 Nm. This marks an increase of 25 hp and 27 Nm over the older model’s outputs. This engine is coupled with Ford’s new 10-speed automatic transmission that trumps the old 6-speed unit with faster gearshifts. The EcoBoost model with the turbocharged 2.3-litre 4-cylinder engine will also use the same transmission but the power remains the same at 310 hp. The torque gets a bump though, which is now 474 Nm compared to the old model’s 434 Nm. Manual transmission option is still available across the range.

The hardware changes are complemented by a host of software updates that help the 2018 Ford Mustang utilize its grunt better. The most important one of them being the Drag Strip mode added to it as the fifth option to the selectable driving modes. This mode eliminates drop in torque during gearshifts and in the Mustangs equipped with the optional MagneRide dampers, apply more vertical force to the rear axles for improving grip. A custom compounded set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires puts the power down to the ground. As a result of all these gimmicks, the 2018 Ford Mustang GT will accelerate from 0-100 kph in just over 4 seconds. The EcoBoost is not that far behind, as it will crack the same run in just under 5 seconds.

Expect the 2018 Ford Mustang to come to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries sometime early next year.
