Seventh-gen 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse gets 500 hp

Seventh-gen 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse gets 500 hp

When the seventh iteration of the legendary pony car was launched a couple of months ago, it was nothing short of a celebration for Mustang fans. Since its famed entry back in the 60s, nothing has fazed its dominance, and the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse looks like an extension of the magic into the future. Did we mention that it has 500 hp from a naturally aspirated V8?

Keeping the V8 alive

The Ford Mustang is the only pony car that could stand the test of time. Its main competitors, the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, are staring at the axe, thanks to the growing intolerance towards internal combustion engines, especially the V8s. But that has not stopped Ford from adding a V8 into the seventh-gen 2024 Ford Mustang engine bay.

2024 Ford Mustang engine specifications

Not just any V8. The fourth-generation Coyote V8 is now upgraded to produce a maximum of 500 hp, making it the most powerful naturally-aspirated 5.0-litre production engine from Ford. The big number is made in the Dark Horse trim, while the regular GT is right behind it with 480 hp, equal to the current-gen limited editions like the Mustang Bullitt and Mach 1. An exhaust upgrade can bump the GT up to 486 hp. Conversely, the 2.3-litre EcoBoost is all-new and gets a performance bump to 315 hp.

Upgrades to the Coyote V8

The upgrades to the Coyote V8 include a new bespoke crankshaft, forged connecting rods, and upgraded camshafts. And, of course, the V8 can be mated to an automatic transmission or, thankfully, a 6-speed manual box. We knew that from the launch in 2022, but it is sweet enough to repeat.

The 2024 Ford Mustang will start reaching the dealership in the States by mid-2023. It should make its way into the Middle Eastern market soon after that.
