1. Brand Perception

Q: Since NIO’s entry into the UAE, how has the brand been received by local customers and the wider market, especially given its premium positioning and innovative approach to EVs?

A: The response has been very positive. For years, electric vehicles were often seen as basic forms of transportation, functional, but lacking the refinement and emotional connection of traditional premium automobiles. At NIO, we have challenged that perception by proving that sustainability and luxury do not exist in silos. We deliver a premium driving experience that stands shoulder to shoulder with the most established high-end brands, while remaining firmly committed to a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Our vehicles have been recognized not only for their design and performance but also for the ecosystem of services we provide. Importantly, we have been successful in positioning ourselves less as a traditional car manufacturer and more as a technology and mobility company. This distinction is significant in a market like the UAE, where the government is driving ambitious sustainability goals and users are quick to embrace advanced solutions. We see this early traction as a strong foundation to grow our brand presence and establish long-term trust in the region.

2. Power Swap Rollout

Q: You’ve confirmed NIO’s Power Swap Stations for the UAE with the first one launched in Abu Dhabi. Can you share how many stations are planned for the first year and which emirates will follow next?

A: As one of our core USPs, Power Swap is central to our user experience strategy, and the launch of the first station in Abu Dhabi marks a significant milestone. Our plan is to establish a network across other emirates. Rather than focusing solely on the number of stations, our strategy is about ensuring these facilities are strategically located where they add maximum value to users, on key routes, in high-traffic areas, and close to important communities, as such, to us at NIO it is important to ensure we gain an understanding of where they will better serve their purpose. This approach also ensures that our rollout supports the UAE’s national mobility and clean energy objectives. Over time, this infrastructure can scale in line with demand, creating a reliable and convenient ecosystem for EV adoption.

3. Model Mix & Local Preferences

Q: From the lineup already introduced, which models are attracting the most attention from UAE buyers, and how do you see local preferences shaping NIO’s sales strategy here?

A: We’ve seen strong interest in our SUV lineup, which is consistent with the market’s preference for larger, versatile vehicles that suit both family use and long-distance driving. These insights allow us to refine our sales strategy and align product availability with demand. What we are observing is that users in the UAE are not only looking for premium design and performance, but also for vehicles that integrate seamlessly into their increasingly busy lives, we’re focused on making the switch to EV as seamless as possible.

This reinforces our strategy of offering a balanced product mix that is both aspirational and practical for local conditions. Additionally, our Users have the ability to comprehensively customize their model of choice, this would mean ordering a production vehicle and we have seen a number of Users taking this option.

4. Role of Tech in NIO

Q: Connectivity has been a core part of NIO’s vehicles from the start. How has the NIO App and in-car connected features been integrated for UAE customers to enhance their ownership experience?

A: Technology is a fundamental part of our value proposition. For the UAE market, we have localized the NIO App and in-car systems to ensure users have seamless access to digital key functions, AC pre-cooling, and managing charging resources, such as booking Power Swaps.

This integration means the ownership experience goes beyond driving, it becomes a continuous, connected relationship between the user and the brand. For UAE users, who are highly digitally engaged, this is an important differentiator and positions NIO as a forward-looking brand that is constantly improving the ownership journey.

5. After-Sales & Ownership

Q: How is NIO ensuring strong after-sales support, software updates, and overall ownership experience in the UAE to build long-term trust?

A: Building long-term trust in a new market depends on the quality of the after-sales experience. In the UAE, we have invested in ensuring we have parts available for users from the beginning and that they have access to round-the-clock user support. Importantly, our vehicles will benefit from over-the-air software updates, which not only keep the cars performing at their best but will also introduce new features and improvements over time.

This ensures that a NIO vehicle is never static, it grows with the user. We also place strong emphasis on service transparency and responsiveness, which are crucial for users making the transition to EVs. By combining premium vehicles with a robust service framework, we are positioning NIO as a brand users can rely on over the long term.

6. UAE Growth Plans

Q: What is NIO’s long-term vision for the UAE, and how does the country fit into the brand’s wider Middle East and global strategy?

A: The UAE, and more importantly Abu Dhabi, plays a central role in NIO’s Middle East strategy. It has all the characteristics we look for in a strategic hub: progressive EV policies, advanced infrastructure, and a user base that is receptive to premium, innovative brands.

NIO UAE - Roperto Lopes Da Silva

Our long-term vision is to establish the UAE as a showcase market for NIO, demonstrating the full extent of our ecosystem. This positions us to expand into neighboring markets with a proven model that can be scaled regionally. Globally, the UAE also supports our broader mission to lead in smart, sustainable mobility. Success here reinforces our brand’s ability to adapt to diverse markets while delivering a consistent premium experience.
