2027 Audi Q9 interior preview ahead of global debut
Audi has offered the first detailed look inside the upcoming Audi Q9, the brand’s first full-size luxury SUV, focusing heavily on interior comfort, technology and practicality ahead of its official world premiere on July 29, 2026.
Spacious cabin with six- and seven-seat layouts
Positioned as Audi’s new flagship SUV, the Q9 introduces a significantly larger cabin than current Q-series models and will be available in both six-seat and seven-seat configurations. Audi says the interior has been designed as a “mobile living space” for long-distance travel, families and executive buyers.

The optional six-seat layout features individual electrically adjustable captain’s chairs in the second row, complete with active ventilation integrated into both the seat cushion and backrest. Buyers opting for the seven-seat version will get three individually adjustable second-row seats, all capable of accommodating child seats. Meanwhile, the third-row seats can be folded electrically when additional cargo space is needed.
Electrically powered doors debut on an Audi
One of the more unusual additions is Audi’s new electrically operated door system. For the first time in an Audi production vehicle, all four doors can be opened and closed electronically through the key, MMI system, myAudi app, brake pedal or even the seatbelt buckle. Audi says the system uses surround sensors and obstacle detection to prevent the doors from opening into nearby objects, cyclists or traffic.
Smart panoramic roof with adjustable transparency
The Q9 also gets a massive panoramic glass roof measuring around 1.5 square metres. Unlike traditional panoramic roofs, Audi has integrated switchable transparency technology, allowing occupants to individually darken sections of the glass roof without the need for a physical sunshade. Higher trims will also feature integrated ambient roof lighting with 84 LEDs and 30 selectable colours.
New 4D audio and immersive lighting technology
Inside, the new SUV continues Audi’s push toward immersive cabin technology. A new interaction light strip spans the dashboard and syncs with the updated Bang & Olufsen 4D sound system. The setup includes headrest speakers and seat-mounted actuators designed to physically transmit low-frequency vibrations to occupants for a more immersive audio experience.
Premium materials and redesigned cabin finishes
Audi is also introducing new upholstery and trim options for the Q9, including alpaca wool blends, Dinamica microfiber, fine Nappa leather and natural wood finishes. The cabin uses more matte and textured surfaces to reduce fingerprints while maintaining a premium look.

Practicality remains a key focus
The Q9 includes wireless Qi2.2 charging pads capable of charging two smartphones simultaneously, USB-C ports delivering up to 100W, and a new adjustable aluminium cargo rail system in the trunk for securing luggage and equipment. Audi will also include roof rails and a roof rack as standard equipment.
Full reveal set for July 2026
Audi has yet to reveal full technical specifications, powertrain options or performance figures for the Q9. Those details are expected to be announced during the SUV’s official unveiling later this summer.
