BMW iX3 launched in the UAE, earns five-star Euro NCAP safety rating

BMW has officially launched the all-new BMW iX3 in the UAE, introducing the first model built on the brand’s next-generation Neue Klasse platform. The electric SUV represents a major step forward for BMW’s EV strategy, combining a new design direction, advanced digital technology and improved electric performance for the premium midsize SUV segment.

Soon after its regional debut, the BMW iX3 also achieved the highest possible five-star safety rating in the latest Euro NCAP crash tests. The result is significant as the iX3 was among the first vehicles assessed under Euro NCAP’s new 2026 testing protocols, which feature stricter evaluation standards focused on real-world driving scenarios.

Neue Klasse architecture

Built on sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, the iX3 offers up to approximately 805 km of range (WLTP) and a peak charging rate of 400 kW, roughly ten minutes of charging is enough for a further 300–370 km.

A new electronic architecture built around four high-performance “superbrain” computers processes data up to 20 times faster than before, while the all-new BMW Panoramic iDrive projects key information across the base of the windscreen for every occupant.

Five-star rating under tougher testing

The revised Euro NCAP evaluation now measures vehicle safety across four key categories: Safe Driving, Crash Avoidance, Crash Protection and Post Crash Safety. The BMW iX3 exceeded the minimum scores required for a five-star rating in every category, highlighting BMW’s wider approach to occupant protection, accident prevention and safety after a crash.

Advanced driver assistance systems

The BMW iX3 scored 73% in the Safe Driving category, outperforming the minimum requirement by 13 percentage points. Euro NCAP praised its standard driver assistance systems, including Speed Limit Info, physical controls for essential driving functions, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and child presence detection technology.

In the Crash Avoidance category, the iX3 achieved 83% thanks to systems such as Front Collision Warning with brake intervention and an exit warning function that alerts occupants to approaching cyclists before opening the doors.

Strong occupant protection

The BMW iX3 recorded 86% in the Crash Protection category. Euro NCAP awarded maximum points for child occupant protection in the rear seats during frontal impact testing, while side impact tests also produced strong results. The SUV’s standard centre airbag helps prevent the driver and front passenger from colliding during a side impact.

Safety after a collision

The iX3 achieved its highest score of 95% in the Post Crash Safety category. Euro NCAP highlighted the reliability of its flush-fitting electrically operated door handles, which continue to function after crash tests through a mechanical backup system. The emergency call system also provides rescuers with precise GPS information to help them reach an accident scene more quickly.

A strong start for the Neue Klasse

The BMW iX3 is the first of nearly 40 new and updated BMW models arriving by 2027, all benefiting from Neue Klasse design, technology and dynamics.

The five-star result gives the iX3 a strong start as the first Neue Klasse production model.
