2012 Los Angeles Auto Show: Photo coverage


One of America’s biggest events, the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, running from November 30 to December 9, yet again plays host to several production debuts and a handful of concepts. New models showcased include the Acura RLX, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series, Kia Forte/Cerato, Fiat 500L, Toyota RAV-4, Porsche Cayman, Honda Civic and the Hyundai Santa Fe LWB. 2012 Sharjah Auto Show: Photo coverage


The 2012 edition of the Sharjah Auto Show is expectedly as cosy as it’s always been, but it held a few interesting surprises this year. Held alongside the Middle East Motor Awards, almost all the top nominated cars were displayed together in one mega-display of great cars, including the McLaren MP4-12C, the Toyota 86 and the Porsche 911. Elsewhere, Mitsubishi launched two new unexpected models, the Lancer Fortis and the Mirage. Nissan displayed their entire range, including the new Altima, redesigned Urvan and the current GT-R, with Infiniti taking another section. Volkswagen brought out the new Polo Sedan as well as a lifted Amarok pickup.

2012 Middle East Motor Awards winners at Sharjah Expo


The 2012 Sharjah Auto Show this year had some surprise exhibits this year, but interestingly, there were very few surprises at the 2012 Middle East Motor Awards. I being one of the 17 judges for the awards, there was always the possibility that my favourites would not win, but it seems many of the other judges had similar opinions to me this time around. Organised by Muhammed Ali Sajjad of the Sharjah Expo, it’s worth noting that General Motors, Audi and a few other carmakers didn’t win anything, which goes to show that this is probably the only “real”

There was a time when the “new” BMW-designed Mini was only available as a 3-door hatchback and a convertible. Then, just like every other premium automaker with a penchant for profits, Mini started to expand the line-up and dilute its brand equity with models like the Countryman. Now there’s a new 5-door model joining the range when the redesigned 2014 Mini arrives next year, to succeed where the Clubman failed.
