Celebrating 30 years of BMW M3, including concept rejects

The year 2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the BMW M3, the automotive icon which became a benchmark of sorts for the sports car segment in 1986 and remains so five generations later. The 30th anniversary of the BMW M3 gives us the opportunity to put the spotlight on four unique variants that, for obvious reasons, never made it past the prototype stage, namely, the BMW M3 Pickup from 1986, the BMW M3 Compact from 1996, the BMW M3 Touring from 2000 and the BMW M3 Pickup revealed in 2011.

BMW 9-Series could be the new flagship

BMW 9-Series could be the new flagship

As the discussions regarding whether the BMW 8-Series will replace the 6-Series is heating up, reports indicate that the German luxury brand might be developing a new 9-series sedan. It will be based on the existing 7-series but will be longer and more opulent. The car came as standard with a 3-year service pack, but the cost to extend this to 5 years was a paltry QAR 500 — a real bargain considering that this period will probably include at least one major service (Inspection II in BMW parlance).

So we got a 2016 BMW M2

So we got a 2016 BMW M2

The last time we drove a BMW, the year was 2012 and everybody was celebrating the fact that the world hadn’t ended. Frankly, looking at the carmaker’s roster, it doesn’t look like we missed anything crucial aside from the BMW M3 (unless you count front-wheel-drive minivans and uber-pricey electric cars as things that interest you). Well, here we have the BMW M2, which some say is better than anything else the company makes right now.
