Video of the week: Google builds driverless Toyota Prius


Google has built a completely-autonomous Toyota Prius that apparently can drive itself around town without the need for a driver. The routes are pre-programmed, and the car has completed over 300,000 km of testing. Using cameras and a scanning laser to do the driving, you just tell it your destination and it plots a route for you, taking into consideration speed limits and traffic patterns. Once they even used Steve, a man who is 95% blind, as part of that testing. However, the car is too expensive to put into production at this point.

Let’s face it, we didn’t have high expectations for the 2012 Lexus GS. We never drove the old model, which was never taken seriously anyway, and we didn’t like the way the new model looked in pictures, like a photoshopped Honda Accord. But then we started hearing good things about it in the foreign press, like how it was somehow better than the BMW 5-Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. That was enough to pique our interest, and we started to look forward to the GCC launch event at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

The Big Boys Toys event, previously held in Abu Dhabi, is all set to open in Dubai for 2012, from the 9th to the 11th of February, the first day being reserved for VIPs. The apparent theme of the show is to cater for the man who ‘wants it all’, so it features everything from clothes to yachts, with a few cars thrown into the mix.
