2009 Volkswagen Golf GTI officially unveiled

The 2009 Volkswagen Golf MK6 has already been revealed, but VW will be showing a GTI version of this new model at the 2008 Paris Auto Show. Changes in performance are minimal.

The front and rear ends of the car are completely new, but that is as far as cosmetic changes go, as even the wheel design is untouched. The turbocharged 2.0-litre engine has barely been touched, as VW probably just upped the boost to get a few more horses, bringing the total to 210 hp, with 280 Nm of torque. The 6-speed manual and DSG automanual choices remain, with 0-100 kph times claimed to take 7.2 seconds. The new GTI will also gain an electronic limited-slip diff and some “active chassis” gimmicks that will adjust suspension settings based on road situations.

The interior is completely similar to the previous one, even going as far as retaining the ugly patterned seats.

Expect the GCC version to hit the streets of Dubai before the summer of 2009. Hopefully it will also be more reliable than the current tow-truck companion.

when are VW designers gonna get serious about interior design? it where the owner/buyer sits for heavens sakes! exterior’s great as usual with VW hatches and I love those wheels. They never get dated.

true Boris..the interiors will make it’s owner feel that they r sitting in a machine tat is inferior to a Toyota Echo!! i really don’t get the point of the “nex-gen-exterior & 90’s corolla interior” combo!!

Khalid just seems to be repeating his post.
Vivek/Boris - I agree with you guys. At the same time I have to say that the prices quoted for any VW is not justifiable. VW means ‘peoples car’ or ‘car of the people’. Over here it’s ‘car of the rich’, add to that these cars are not reliable in the electronics dept…the dealer’s service sucks as well…

Well dont forget guys.. The VW Golf GTI was named the car of the year 2007. Also if anyone has actually driven it, they will know the difference between a true German sportscar and a egg shell like Japanese car..
