2008 Toyota Land Cruiser debut in USA
The 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser has officially been unveiled in Australia and the United States, each offering different engines.
In Australia, Toyota will be offering the Land Cruiser with either a turbodiesel V8 or petrol V8 engine. The diesel will be a 4.5-litre turbo V8 producing 286 hp and 650 Nm of torque, and it will be mated to a 6-speed automatic. The petrol engine will be a 4.7-litre VVT-i V8 producing 288 hp and 444 Nm of torque, with a 5-speed automatic.
The American Land Cruiser will be sold as only a luxury vehicle with no base models, with a 5.7-litre V8 producing 381 hp and 543 Nm of torque, with a six-speed automatic transmission. It costs US$ 63,200 in the United States, US$ 6,000 more than the old model.
The 2008 Land Cruiser has new suspension up front, namely a double-wishbone independent system with a trick Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System that can disengage the stabilizer bars for more articulation. The rear is still a live-axle, and thus the uncomfortable third row doesn’t fold flat. Both the second and third rows swing out of the way to make a flat cargo floor.
At the launch of the FJ Cruiser, Toyota officials mentioned that the new Land Cruiser will be unveiled in the Middle East before the end of the year, although we heard elsewhere that it could be as late as February 2008.
