2010 Chevrolet Camaro revealed early

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, which more or less looks just like the overexposed prototype, is going to be revealed on July 21 in the United States, and these are the first photos. Powered by a 304 hp 3.6-litre V6 or a 400+ hp 6.2-litre V8, and riding on a shortened Lumina SS platform with four-wheel independent suspension, the new Camaro already makes the low-tech Mustang seem outdated by three decades.

The Camaro will come in LS, LT and SS trim, equipped with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic. The LS and LT get a 304 hp V6 with 370 Nm of torque, with manual or auto. The SS gets a 426 hp V8 (569 Nm) with the manual, or a 400 hp V8 (555 Nm) with the automatic. The automatic V8 features cylinder deactivation to improve fuel economy. StabiliTrak traction control is standard, while Brembo brakes are available on the SS version. The SS also gets stiffer suspension and adjustable Competitive/Sport modes for stability control and Launch Control on manual models.

The interior is a bit of a letdown, with a truck-like dashboard peppered with an overkill of misplaced bulging gauges. Shown here is the leather interior, with blue LED lighting. The cabin looks to be of better materials than the hard plastics in the Mustang.

Standard rims include 18-inch, 19-inch and 20-inch wheels. An RS appearance package is available on LT and SS that includes HID headlamps with integrated halo rings, spoiler, different tail-lights and 20-inch wheels. The V6 weighs between 1700 kg and 1718 kg, and the SS V8 between 1755 kg and 1779 kg.

It is a fair bet that the Camaro will come to the GCC by the summer of 2009, as its American showroom launch is in early 2009. A convertible version will also be available in the States during November 2009.

  1. “in my opinion”
this is the second best looking car after the vette betn the american automakers…actually mustang SUX in its shape and iterior is too cheap.
this car is so hot although it was taken from classic style as the mustaang but still way better than it..the interior is good compared to the cheap plastics in corvettes and mustangs.
the prices are very good since it just comes after the lumina in place…the V6 engine is very good from an american company”since they are specialest in V8 engines”…the V8 is not that special thing…i think its only an upgrade from the 6 L lumina SS engine. am still not satisfied with the performance that comes from their V8s. the second good thing is the 6AT transmission instead of the old and outdated one in Lumina. the Deactivation thing in controlling cylinders is really good thing for the fuel eco. but i think it will affect its performance depending on the # of the deactivated cylinders….over all, i prefer to buy it over mustang or interms of price over corvette 😉

  2. looks better and more powerful than the mustang..gonna kill mustang!

Yeah, I gave that car enough coverage. I’ll wait for the GCC release now.

  7. do you think the new lumina ss 2009 will also carry the ls3 6.2L V8. i already have confirmation through a source at Al Ghandi that they have sold 3 lumina ss 2009s with projector head lamps and a six speed auto transmission. sadly i just got mines at 135,000 AED last month and the new one’s for 145k

That’s news to me. The Australian market already has a 6.2 HSV model. The 2009 Aussie SS still has the 6.0, so I guess the only upgrade here is lights and gearbox.

  9. that’s good news, finally the 6 speed comes here..good excuse to raise the price 10k..but still cheaper than the price in Australia i think..

  10. I saw a black dodge challenger SRT8 being delivered to the dodge showroom on shk zayed today afternoon, anyone else knows about this?

Haven’t heard, but then again, Chrysler never communicates with us.

  12. mash, why are you refering to yourself by using (us, we)?

  13. Author

Because I have multiple-personality disorder. I also have a part-time PR guy who handles the PR.

  14. lol at the above post. so umm, one question, why so late? I mean, isn’t the camaro released in the US by feb 2009? and is there any news on the pricing for the v6 and v8 model in the UAE yet? (and if there isn’t, how much do YOU (there’s no italics buttons here) think it’ll cost mashfique?)

  15. excuse my stupidity, wrong post. 🙄

  16. d1akhos d1ayakh d1a garshok na kolyosah:-P:-P
