2009-2010 Mazda 3 fully revealed
The all-new Mazda 3 has been revealed at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show. So far, it looks like it will be called a 2010 model in America, although European markets will call it a 2009. The sedan was shown at the L.A. show, while photos of the hatchback have just been released. A UAE release should happen by early next year.
The American version is getting some excellent choices in specifications, namely either a 148 hp 2.0-litre 4-cylinder with 183 Nm of torque and a 5-speed manual or auto gearbox; or a 167 hp 2.5-litre 4-cylinder with 228 Nm of torque and a 6-speed manual or 5-speed auto.
The American Mazda 3, also known as ‘Mazda3’ will have features like dual-zone automatic climate control, Xenon self-leveling headlights, push-button start, hands-free Bluetooth, iPod integration and an optional leather interior. Safety features such as four-wheel-disc brakes, ABS, head restraints and six airbags are all standard, while stability control is optional.
Considering Mazda has traditionally brought only their poorest models to the GCC region, we wouldn’t expect the Mazda 3 to have anything more than a 1.6-litre with automatic when it hits the streets of Dubai in early 2009. If their PR people weren’t so busy handing out low-volume test cars to foreign magazines, they’d actually have time to analyse the local market and promote the cars that need to be promoted.
For local prices and details of the latest model, keep track of updates in the Mazda 3 buyer guide.
