Kia Sorento 2010 UAE launch in Dubai
The 2010 Kia Sorento was officially launched in the UAE at a dinner event in Dubai, although we hear it is on sale here already as well as in Oman and other GCC countries.
The 2010 Sorento is a fair bit longer than the outgoing one, and is now a unibody crossover instead of a body-on-frame offroader. If you understood all that, you’ll also figure out that it now rides like a car and there is now space for three rows of seats.
The available engines apparently include a 172 hp 2.4-litre inline-4 and a 273 hp 3.5-litre V6, both mated to a 6-speed automatic and all-wheel-drive. However, some press materials we received only refer to the V6 version coming to the UAE.
The Kia Sorento will be equipped optionally with a six, eight or ten-speaker audio system with MP3 and iPod connectivity, plus a built-in or an external amplifier, as well as keyless entry, parking sensors, cloth or leather upholstery, 17-inch or 18-inch alloys wheels, ABS, and two airbags.
While we are still vague on what features are available for the Middle East, we did have a brief look at the Sorento during the free dinner party. The seats and armrests have a premium feel, counteracted by hard plastics on the dash and upper door panels. Space is fine in the first two rows, but we could not figure out how to access the fold-down third row. We might take a closer look at a later date.
As for the food at the dinner, we’d give it an A- overall. There were many types of meat, including chicken, lamb and beef, cooked in what we believe was Arabic style, but the only available rice was of the white variety. The only vegetable dishes that we could remember were boiled carrots and potatoes, but the yellowy fish was absolutely excellent. And then we remembered that we are not food critics.
The official UAE price list refers to a base price of Dhs 79,900, for a 3.5-litre model. Once we have more details, we will update the Kia Sorento buyer guide.
