BMW launches hybrid X6 and 7-Series in the GCC
BMW has launched two high-end hybrid models in the GCC, based on the X6 and the 7-Series, and both with equally long names. One is the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 and the other is the BMW ActiveHybrid 7. After a few false starts by Chevrolet, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz, these are likely the first true hybrid vehicles to be commercially available in the UAE. And we are assuming they are expensive.
The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 enters the Middle East market with a 4.4-litre V8 engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology, supported by two electric motors, for a total of 485 hp. It offers options to drive with electric power alone, to use the power of the combustion engine, or a combination of both drive modes. Driving in electric mode is possible up to a speed of 60 kph, the combustion engine then cuts in as required and is automatically switched off when driving at a speed of less than 65 kph. Fuel consumption and emissions are reduced by 20% compared to the regular X6, with average fuel consumption rated at 9.9 litres/100 km.
The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is a 455 hp mild hybrid offering more power and 15% lower fuel consumption than the standard BMW 750Li. Average fuel consumption is rated at 9.4 litres/100 km. It comes with an electric a/c compressor, so it can cool the interior to a comfortable temperature before starting the car.
Both the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 and ActiveHybrid 7 are the first BMW models with an automatic transmission to feature an engine Start/Stop function. Every time the vehicle comes to a standstill, the engine switches off, cutting fuel consumption and emissions. When the driver accelerates, the engine switches back on. During this process, all electric functions such as the air conditioning are supplied with power from the battery so that they continue to operate.
The new BMW ActiveHybrid X6 and ActiveHybrid 7 are available at all official BMW dealers across the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Do they really have a market for these cars in the GCC:
We have low fuel prices, very low tax and all engine types pay equal registration fees! So why to go for Hyprid cars?
Also people who could afford a BMW X6/7 or Lexus 460L, do they really care about fuel consumption!
This could be just a marketing tool for the dealers.
I wonder why the bring these cars to our markets?

Words like Carbon credits and Green Credentials are still not part of Middle East dictionary. These cars are just Marketing gimmicks and snobby feel good toys

people who drives 7 series or X6 or any other high-end or top of rang vehicles just tends not to “care” about petrol bills….. at least here… so whats the point of bringing these cars here…. they should stick hybrid to the economy cars or wagons, or even enty level saloons like sunny, civic or corrollas… ets…
