Audi Q3 adds another crossover to 2012 range

This is the all-new 2012 Audi Q3. It is a rebodied VW Tiguan, and falls in the sub-compact crossover segment, alongside more original competitors such as the Infiniti EX and the BMW X1.

The two direct-injection petrol engines will be offered, both VW-sourced 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder units, one good for 170 hp and the other offering 211 hp, neither good enough compared to the premium competition. The base model is front-wheel-drive, while the top models get all-wheel-drive. All models get a 7-speed dual-clutch automanual transmission.

The interior gets the usual “MMI” infotainment system as well as radar-based safety systems. Incidentally, the five-seater Q3 has less cabin space than the VW Tiguan due to its shape.

The Audi Q3 is debuting at the Shanghai Auto Show, in VW’s continuing desperate attempt to become the largest automaker in the world by tapping the growing Chinese market. Expect the crossover to reach showrooms in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries by the end of 2012.

Keep track of updates on the feeble Q3 in the Audi buyer guide.

  2. I’M BUYING ONE, that’s for sure.

  3. the germans have lost the plot .MB is expected to have 40 models by 2013.But at the end of all this they are still far off for the middle class .

  4. @ ronnie … What do u mean the Germans have lost the plot? Do you know the price of a Japanese car and their spare parts these days?!

Mercedes-Benz will compete this crossover category with their upcoming BLK …

Audi on the otherhand have some lazy designers who know nothing more than to simply alter the size of all their vehicles…. look at this Q3 for instance… Isnt this almost the same shape as the Q5 or lets say a lifted A1
