Chevrolet Malibu 2013 completely redesigned

Chevrolet Malibu 2013 completely redesigned

The current Chevrolet Malibu made its appearance in Dubai not so long ago. And here we have the redesigned version already which has been unveiled as a 2013 model at the 2011 Shanghai International Motor Show.

The new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu appears bolder and the rear squared LED taillamp design is reminiscent of the Camaro. It features an electronically controlled and integrated active aero shutter system that automatically opens and closes airflow through the lower intake vents depending on the air intake requirements based on engine coolant temperature and speed.

Powered by a 2.5-litre Ecotec 4-cylinder “CVVT” engine with direct injection and mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, the 2013 Malibu is expected to offer performance and fuel efficiency figures rivalling the best in segment with over 190 hp and 245 Nm of torque on tap. Riding on MacPherson struts in the front and multi-link suspensions in the rear and aided by a supposedly well-engineered chassis, the ride quality, as claimed by Chevrolet, is on par with the many of the well-known premium European marques.

The interior has been revised too. The new car, sporting a shorter wheelbase compared to the previous model, is wider and boasts more rear legroom and trunk space. Chevrolet claims that their all-new dual cockpit interior offers spaciousness and tranquility while sporting premium materials and obviously high levels of craftsmanship. Interior features include ambient mood lighting, available metallic, chrome or wood trims, and a MyLink infotainment and navigation system featuring a 7-inch touch-screen colour display, bluetooth connectivity and online radio services.

On the safety front, the Malibu is available with four-channel ABS, EBD, Brake assist, Corner Brake Control, Traction Control, Stability Control; Front, side, curtain and knee airbags for driver and front passenger, lane departure warning system, forward collission alert and rearview camera. The new car is also pedestrian protection-compliant.

Expect the new Malibu to hit Middle East shores sometime in late 2012. All other details, including performance, options and pricing packages for the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other markets, are currently unknown.

Keep track of GCC updates in the Chevrolet Malibu buyer guide.

  1. The front end looks like the result of marrying the ford taurus and chevy epica, this is what they got, the rear end is not going with the lines of the car, they should have done something better, but frankly, the interior is really nice with these colors and the materials seem to be high quality and the colors are amazing, this brown is really nice because frankly we are fed up of either beige or black interiors and this is a new, yet very nice laid out interior.

  2. The Premium interiors looks fantastic… That + – on the gear knob for gear shifts is interesting

  3. front end’s good but the rear doesnt fit in.. interior is quite nice.

  4. Rear is ugly….Interior seems a nice place though!

  5. What about the V6 Engine ??

  6. does it have rear vents now>>

  7. The question is the malibu, ford taurus or the dodge charger v6 with 8 speed at the end of 2012 .I hope to have one of these 2012 end ,but will it get better??

    • Charge yourself with the monster beast ‘CHARGER’.
      Malibu – Ugly back

    • Well Ronnie, i was deciding between these 3 cars and i chose Taurus. Personally Dodge is the best, particularly if you are looking at getting the V8

    • ford and chevy are fwds and charger is a rwd..the charger v6 is more powerful than the taurus and rides better as well..however, base taurus comes cheaper and with more safety and electronic features..

      have no idea about Malibu..

  8. That’s clearly a re-vamped Vauxhall Insignia with stuck-on Camaro tail-lights! 😛

  9. Musa which version ofthe taurus did you buy? how much is it?BTW how is the car in terms of power ,efficency?

    • The SE, which is the basic version, for 84k. I wanted the next one which is SEL, but that is priced at 109k, and I think a 25k increase between 2 immediate trims is a bit too much. I may still get the SEL if they decrease the price to 100k.
I test drove it for 30 minutes only, and its a quiet and refined ride, when compared to the Maxima, which is harsher and louder. You dont notice the V6 under 100 kph that much, but lets say you are going at 100 and need to push to 140, thats when it really shows its power.
Another thing about Taurus is it is a very tall car, so much so that when I raised the seat to the max, I was level with drivers in crossovers like Murano, and I could see ahead of SUV’s, something i cant do when i am driving in a normal sedan 🙂
The best thing about the base Taurus is its excellent value for money; for 85k you are getting an American made V6 with a 3 yrs service plan.

  10. Nicely designed interior..
