The day is getting close, and we’re all excited to show our love for our country. But, there are a couple of things that you have to keep in check while taking part in the National Day celebrations.

Punishment for the violation of safety laws will result in a licence seizure which may last up to three whole months, the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols in Abu Dhabi has advised.

Furthermore, anyone breaking the rules on car decorations is entitled to face a fine of Dhs 2000 along with 12 black points. Repeat the offence and you’ll be looking at 24 black points to your license. Repeating offenders may also have their licence confiscated.

Totalling 24 black points will amount to the confiscation of the driving licence for three months for the first traffic violation. The second violation will result in a confiscation period of six months and the third violation will entitle the offender to have his/her licence confiscated for a year He/she will also have to pass a driving course at one of the accredited driving schools in the state.

Sources also suggest that the police have circulated a list of guidelines on car decoration and driving manners during the period. The basic rules include not obscuring the windshield and front-door windows with tint or sprays, not changing the colour of the whole car, not installing noise-makers, and not sticking hands out of the windows and sunroof. Drivers have to keep their licence plates visible at all times, and refrain from excessive honking.

So the message of the day is “celebrate responsibly.”

What do you think?
