Over 80% of the vehicles were either hybrid or electric, which serves as an indicator of how fast the Asian markets have adopted greener alternatives. The event, which continues until 28th April, promises to be a venue for manufacturers to present their most recent achievements in the automotive sector and provide a view into the direction of mobility in the future.

Great Wall Motors

GWM is China’s leading car manufacturer and is shaking up the market with its high-end luxury vehicles for internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrid and electric variants. In 2023, they plan to launch a number of new initiatives to strengthen their market leadership position in the crowded Chinese market and beyond. One of the breakthrough developments has been the company’s new electric vehicle platform, such as the Hi4-Technology (Hi4-T)

Hi4 stands for Hybrid Intelligent 4WD, which is a new hybrid technology that combines intelligent features with a four-wheel drive system. This innovative technology was developed by GWM based on the concept of efficiency, performance, and price. The Hi4 system uses a dual-motor design with both parallel and series connections between the front and rear axles, which they claim allows for an excellent driving experience with the performance of a 4WD system and the energy efficiency of a 2WD system.

The new tech is based on the concept of “all-weather driving” and is designed around the user’s daily driving scenarios by dynamically switching between 3 engines and 9 modes based on different operating conditions and requirements. Combined with the iTVC intelligent torque vector control system, the front and rear axle torque can be intelligently distributed and dynamically adjusted in real time, improving vehicle stability, safety, and comfort.

GWM HAVAL FIERCE DRAGON AT AUTO SHANGHAI

HAVAL – Fierce Dragon MAX World Premiere

This new HAVAL will be positioned as an intelligent family SUV and is equipped with GWM’s latest Hi4 technology, which allows for an all-wheel drive at the cost equivalent of 2WD hardware. The Fierce Dragon’s advanced EV-based powertrain consists of three motors (one engine and two e-motors). The Fierce Dragon claims impressive fuel economy for a family SUV, with a consumption rate of 5.5 l/100 km, even with its 20kWh batteries on low SOC. It also boasts a WLTP range of over 1,200 km for a full tank and a pure electric range of 105 km (may vary in the Middle East region). The Fierce Dragon’s “EV+” feature enables it to work as a normal unplugged hybrid, providing good fuel economy even when the battery runs out.

According to GWM’s Chief Product Leader, the Fierce Dragon’s Hi4 and second-generation e-hybrid technology sets it apart from traditional plug-in hybrid vehicles. The Fierce Dragon retains its energy efficiency even when the battery is low, while traditional PHEVs tend to lose efficiency due to the added weight of the battery using an ICE engine. The Fierce Dragon features an exterior design with more EV tastes but not too much deviation from the mainstream norm, which works just fine for a family SUV buyer. It also boasts innovative features, such as the new generation Coffee OS intelligent cockpit system, 12.3-inch infotainment screen, 12.3-inch dashboard connected with 10-inch W HUD, and Coffee intelligent driving technology, which brings in a much-needed new perspective to Chinese-made infotainment systems. The Fierce Dragon is the first vehicle to be equipped with GWM’s new hybrid architecture Hi4 and is positioned as an all-around electric 4WD new energy SUV, ushering in a new era of all-terrain driving.

  1. These Chinese brands are giving big monopolistic brands a run of their LIFE. With all the designs and features and price factors – they are capturing a big chunk of the market. I wonder how those big brands are going to cope with this dent in their supply chain especially when the market was already on the down low for them. Its crrrazzzyy how quickly Chinese carmakers have flooded the markets.
