Exclusive First Look: Tesla Model Y L Premium

Tesla has officially launched the new Model Y L Premium in the UAE, introducing a larger, six-seat version of its best-selling electric SUV. While customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in November, DriveArabia was given an exclusive preview of the vehicle ahead of its market arrival, offering an early look at the new family-focused variant.

Priced from AED 224,990, the Model Y L Premium expands the Model Y lineup by adding a longer wheelbase, a three-row cabin and significantly more practicality, while retaining the performance and efficiency that have made the standard model one of the world’s best-selling electric vehicles.

Longer Wheelbase Creates More Space

The biggest change is the increase in size. The Model Y L Premium features a wheelbase extended by 150 mm and an overall length that is 179 mm longer than the standard Model Y. Rather than simply adding a third row, Tesla has used the additional space to improve comfort throughout the cabin.

Second-row passengers benefit from increased legroom, while the redesigned roof also creates more headroom. The third row has been engineered to comfortably accommodate taller passengers, making it more usable than the occasional-use rear seats found in many compact SUVs.

Six Individual Seats

Unlike many three-row SUVs that use a conventional second-row bench, the Model Y L Premium adopts a six-seat layout with individual captain’s chairs in the second row.

One of the standout features is the powered armrests integrated into each captain’s chair. Instead of folding or sliding the second-row seats, passengers simply walk through the centre aisle. It is easy enough to enter but might not be the most convenient for people taller than 6 ft.

The second-row seats themselves feature heating, ventilation, power adjustment and generous recline, giving occupants a premium travel experience.

More Cargo Capacity Than Ever

Despite adding a third row, the Model Y L Premium continues to offer impressive luggage capacity.

The front trunk (frunk) provides additional storage for smaller items, while the rear cargo area remains highly versatile. With all six seats in use there is still usable luggage space behind the third row.

Folding the third-row seats creates a substantially larger load area for everyday family use, while folding both the second and third rows opens up the full cargo area, allowing the Model Y L Premium to carry bulky items with ease. 

The second and third row seats can be folded electrically with the touch of a button from the cargo area or from the centre console touchscreen.

Combined front and rear storage makes it one of the most practical electric SUVs in its class, offering ample space.

Up To 681 km Driving Range

Power comes from Tesla’s dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, allowing the Model Y L Premium to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 5.0 seconds while reaching a top speed of 201 km/h.

Tesla claims a WLTP driving range of up to 681 km, giving the Model Y L Premium one of the longest driving ranges available in the three-row electric SUV segment. The extended range makes it well suited to both daily commuting and longer inter-emirate journeys without frequent charging stops.
