Dubai Police unveils next-generation Ghiath smart patrol based on DENZA B8
Dubai Police has revealed the second generation of its Ghiath smart patrol vehicle, introducing a new plug-in hybrid platform based on the DENZA B8. Developed in partnership with Al-Futtaim, the exclusive distributor of BYD in the UAE, the new patrol forms part of Dubai Police’s ongoing strategy to expand its use of smart mobility, artificial intelligence and sustainable transport technologies.
The launch took place on July 8 and was attended by Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD Company, Omar Al Futtaim, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Al-Futtaim, alongside senior officials from Dubai Police and both organisations.
The unveiling also marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Dubai Police and Al-Futtaim to jointly develop the next generation of Ghiath smart patrol vehicles. The agreement was signed by Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei on behalf of Dubai Police and Yousuf AlRaeesi, Director of Government Affairs at Al-Futtaim.
DENZA B8 plug-in hybrid platform
Unlike the original Ghiath, the new patrol vehicle is based on the DENZA B8 PHEV SUV. Dubai Police says the new platform combines advanced security systems with improved performance and lower emissions, while supporting faster response times and more efficient field operations.
Although Dubai Police has not released technical specifications of the patrol vehicle itself, the production DENZA B8 uses BYD’s latest plug-in hybrid technology and is designed to offer long driving range, high performance and the ability to operate on electric power for shorter urban journeys.
Supporting Dubai’s smart policing vision
Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri said the new patrol reinforces Dubai Police’s ambition to remain among the world’s leading law enforcement organisations by adopting the latest technologies and advanced equipment.
He added that the partnership with Al-Futtaim and BYD represents another step towards building a smarter, more efficient and sustainable police fleet capable of meeting the evolving demands of future policing.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei highlighted the importance of public-private sector collaboration, noting that Dubai Police continues to prioritise strategic partnerships that contribute to innovation and improved operational capabilities.
Yousuf AlRaeesi, Director of Government Affairs at Al-Futtaim, said the collaboration supports Dubai Police’s long-term fleet development strategy while contributing to the UAE’s reputation for safety and innovation.
Ghiath project continues to evolve
The Ghiath programme remains one of Dubai Police’s flagship smart mobility initiatives, integrating artificial intelligence, connected technologies and advanced communications systems into its patrol fleet.
With the introduction of the DENZA B8-based plug-in hybrid model, Dubai Police is continuing its transition towards more sustainable and technologically advanced patrol vehicles while supporting Dubai’s broader vision for smart city mobility and environmental sustainability.
