2026 Mitsubishi Pajero Interior Teased

Mitsubishi has provided the clearest look yet at the interior of the all-new Pajero, ahead of the SUV’s official global unveiling later in 2026.

The cabin appeared briefly in a promotional video covering Mitsubishi’s Star Camp 2026 event at Asagiri Kogen in Japan. While the vehicle remained largely hidden from public view, several guests were allowed to inspect the new Pajero closely and sit inside it.

The short footage does not reveal the complete dashboard, but it offers an early indication of the more premium direction Mitsubishi is taking with its returning flagship SUV.

More Premium Cabin for the New Pajero

The new Pajero appears to feature a two-tone black and beige interior, with light-coloured upholstery contrasting against darker sections of the cabin.

Visible details include stitched trim across the upper door panel and seats that appear to use thicker cushioning than those found in Mitsubishi’s more utilitarian models. Guests featured in the video also commented on the cabin’s space, comfort and upmarket appearance.

However, Mitsubishi has not yet shown the complete dashboard, central infotainment display or instrument cluster. The company has also not confirmed the Pajero’s seating configuration, interior dimensions or available comfort features.

The early preview nevertheless suggests that Mitsubishi intends to position the Pajero as more than a rugged off-road vehicle. It will also need to function as a comfortable family SUV and long-distance cruiser, particularly in markets such as the Middle East, Australia and Southeast Asia.

Digital Multi Meter Returns

One confirmed interior feature is the return of Mitsubishi’s distinctive triple-meter display.

Called the Multi Meter, the new digital system pays tribute to the separate gauges fitted to previous generations of the Pajero. It can display information such as altitude, compass direction, outside temperature, vehicle pitch and roll angles, and left-to-right torque distribution.

The system is intended to provide drivers with useful vehicle and terrain information when travelling off-road. Mitsubishi has not yet clarified whether the Multi Meter will appear within the main infotainment screen, the digital instrument cluster or on a separate display mounted on top of the dashboard.

Based on the Mitsubishi Triton

The all-new Pajero will be based on the ladder-frame platform used by the latest Mitsubishi Triton pickup.

Mitsubishi says the SUV will receive its own dedicated cabin, along with model-specific front and rear suspension development. This should allow the Pajero to retain the strength and off-road capability associated with a body-on-frame platform while delivering better ride comfort and refinement than the Triton.

Four-wheel drive is expected to be central to the Pajero’s positioning, although Mitsubishi has not announced its engine range, transmission options or detailed off-road specifications.

Depending on the market, the Triton is available with a 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine. It remains unclear whether the Pajero will use the same powertrain or receive additional petrol, hybrid or plug-in hybrid options.

Pajero Returning as Mitsubishi Flagship

Mitsubishi has described the new Pajero as its upcoming flagship model. It will make its world premiere in autumn 2026, marking the nameplate’s return to the global market five years after production of the previous generation ended.

First introduced in 1982, the Pajero was sold across four generations, achieving cumulative global sales of more than 3.25 million vehicles in over 170 countries and regions.

The model also developed a strong motorsport reputation through the Dakar Rally, where it secured 12 overall victories, including seven consecutive wins.

The new Pajero will enter a significantly more competitive market than its predecessor. Its likely rivals will include the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Ford Everest and other body-on-frame SUVs that combine off-road ability with increasingly luxurious interiors and advanced technology.

The Pajero name also remains well known in the GCC, where previous generations were popular due to their comparatively affordable pricing, practical seven-seat cabins and proven off-road ability.

Mitsubishi has not yet announced whether the new Pajero will be offered in the UAE or wider Middle East. More exterior, interior and powertrain details are expected to be released closer to its official unveiling later this year.
