First drive: 2015 Jaguar XJ R in the UAE

The current Jaguar XJ is the flagship model that set the styling tone for all Jaguars that came after it, and while several new models have joined the range, the XJ itself is getting a bit long in the tooth. However, it’s hard to complain when it looks as modern as ever, and very unique in a class where rivals are increasingly aping the Mercedes-Benz S-Class for inspiration. Jaguar has kept the XJ fresh by playing with powertrain options over the years, and the XJR you see here is the most powerful one you can get.

Jaguar is one of the few brands that often sets up track days for potential as well as existing customers, to show a side of their cars that wouldn’t be apparent in a regular test-drive. Their latest event was held at the Yas Marina circuit a couple of months ago, and the media was invited to have a go at their range of cars as well.

Comparo: 2014 Maserati Quattroporte S V6 vs Jaguar XJ V6 Supercharged

If you’re the aging CEO of a well-to-do company and you like to be driven around, your ride of choice has probably gravitated towards default choices like the Mercedes-Benz S350L or the BMW 740Li. First drive: 2012 Jaguar XJ-L V6 in the UAE

Jaguar is reinventing itself, according to their new “Alive” marketing campaign. Now with three ultra-futurist models making up the range, they’ve revamped their logo and are heavily pushing their cars towards potentially-younger customers. Part of the GCC launch event for the campaign involved a round in the V6-powered XJ-L which debuted last year. This was the first time in our seven-year existence that we’d actually been invited to a Jaguar driving event.

Jaguar XJ V6 2012 base model in UAE & GCC

With a choice of three V8 engines, two of them supercharged, Jaguar apparently were not finding enough buyers for their all-new XJ flagship sedan in “developing” regions such as Russia, China and the Middle East. So as per “demand”, they’ve released a new base model with a 3.0-litre V6 just for these markets.
