Chinese-British automotive brand MG has announced the launch of the new MG 360 in the Middle East, apparently the first region in the world to get this new model after China where it is known as the Roewe 360.
Morris Garages, the well-known (in Europe at least) British brand that’s best known for making little sports cars back in the day and hopped-up Rover-based sedans most recently before they shut shop. The brand eventually became a part of China’s SAIC, and they’ve launched their own steady stream of economy cars since then, culminating in the brand’s first crossover SUV — the MG GS.
MG has confirmed that the new MG ZS, which made its global debut at the recent 14th Guangzhou International Auto Exhibition, is set to arrive in the Middle East by late 2017. The new SUV introduces a new design language from MG that will form the corporate look of future models.
How often is it that cars enter the GCC market, get stereotyped, and go unnoticed? A classic example of that has to be the brand we call MG, a simple abbreviation for Morris Garages.
The “British” brand with a Chinese base, MG launched three new models at the 2011 Dubai Motor Show. Chinese-built models at launch include the MG 550 and the MG 750, with the MG3, MG 350 and MG6 models set to join later.
While the Rover-derived Chinese Roewe models, rebadged as MG, are still undergoing testing in the UAE before its imminent launch, the MG 550 as well as the MG 750 are already on sale in Oman via an official dealer.
While we were trolling around in Dubai looking for a midsize sedan to buy, we came across this attractive compact car, fully registered, and driven by staff from Arabian Automobiles, who happen to be the local dealers for Nissan, Infiniti and Renault here. On closer inspection, “SAIC” badges revealed its Chinese origins. It was also badged as an MG 550 1.8T. Those who keep track of such things will know that Chinese carmaker SAIC now owns the MG brand as well as some bits of Rover. On further pestering, the “owner” told us that Arabian Automobiles has handed out a bunch of these cars to staff members a couple of months ago,
